I've been shaving my head for probably ten years now. I used to use clippers, but gradually went down from about a three all over to no guard, and then give it a shot with the razor. The first couple of attempts left me looking like I'd lost a fight with a cat, but I soon got the hang of it. I started using my DE on my head as soon as I moved over to one and had no problems.
I used to be voluntarily bald when I started, but these days I just have a horseshoe round the back and sides. My maternal granddad was the same before he was forty, so it didn't come as a surprise.
I've been using a Headblade to shave my dome for several years. Reading what some of you guys have tried with alternate carts in the HB got me wondering. While at Wal-Mart yesterday, I spotted a ten pack of Wilkinson Super II Plus carts (Atra compatible) for around $3.50. Compare that to what a 4 pack of HB branded carts cost, and the savings are pretty amazing.
So how did the Wilkie work? Not bad at all! In fact, SWMBO says my scalp was smoother than usual. I did have to get used to going back to a 2 blade cart from the HB 3 blade cart, but after a couple passes, the Wilkinson was easy to use and performed admirably.
Anyone else tried these in the Headblade?

I'm a full-time, close to the scalp, buzz cut with barber shears guy and occasional head-shaver. Since getting into traditional shaving, I now want to go full Monty bald.
I even just bought a container of Head Lube in preparation.

Baldness is becoming involuntary for me but for the last 12 years or so I've been shaving my head to a number 0 with clippers, and for the last 5 years I've been shaving my head completely on a daily basis, using soap brush and razor, starting with a fusion and then moving to a DE, currently using a 1969 (Date Code O3) Gillette Super-84.
I started head shaving 8 months ago (and face shaving--having had a beard for decades--9 or 10 months ago, 5 months ago with a DE razor). I prep my head the same way I prep my face (shower and hair conditioner, then a hot towel and brush/shaving soap, shave, witch hazel, and a dab of my home-mix of oils) but I use the Headblade instead of a DE razor. Until recently I was head shaving every couple of days or so, but now I use my leftover face-shave lather to do a daily quick, one-pass Headblade shave. I use CVS (Dorco made) Atra-style blades, which, according to a blog post elsewhere by Headblade's founder, are the same as the Headblade-brand blades. I bought the blades on sale online for 25 cents each, and I get 15+ one-pass (plus touch-ups) shaves per blade--1.5 cents or less per shave.
Been shaving my head for 3 weeks now and I love it! I use the headblade/head slick combo. I am BBC (bald by choice), but been receding for a while.
That HeadBlade device seems like either a "love it" or "I hate it" deal. I may get one just to try it out from pure curiosity.

I've always used a Gillette Mach 3 / fusion cartridge razor for my head until I got into DE Shaving about a month ago. The price on carts was going up & up and since I shave my head most days or at least every 2 days I was spending a fortune.
Now my mighty Muhle is doing the job! Had a few nicks when I first tried a DE on my head but I out that down to poor prep & inexperience. Now I don't have any issue and I can do it pretty quickly now without much fuss!
Saves me a fortune!!
Been trying all sorts of methods to shave my bonce... Finally think I'll have to settle for with-the-grain shaving only.
Tried AGT using:
- my DE (Edwin Jagger DE89): lots of cuts, and shaving rash on back of head
- Gillette 3 blade disposable thing: no cuts, but lots of shaving rash on back of head
- Gillette 2 blade disposable thing: again no cuts, but lots of shaving rash on back of head
- Bic 1 blade disposable: no cuts, minimal shaving rash but really struggled to cut through hair (pretty crappy shave results..)
Used the same prep for all the above 'experiments' - wash head in shower, hot towel, wet head, king of shaves gel on first, proraso soap lathered on with badger brush. And then afterwards rinse off, alum block, wash head in shower to rinse off and then balm.
I've tried XTG too but that caused the same kinds of issue as above
So going WTG I get a reasonable shave and no rash, just not as smooth as I'd like! Might try the DE WTG at some point and see the results
I alternate between periods of having my hair cut with clippers to a no 1, and shaving to the bone.
I first started shaving about 3 or 4 years ago, and the first time I tried it my hair was quite long. But I had an open comb razor (a Merkur 1904), so after soaping up my hair I started hacking away with that. It went OK and the locks started coming off just great, but I started to feel a few nicks, and then there were trickles of blood in my hair. But it's not the kind of thing you can just stop part way through, so I carried on until all the hair was gone and then worked on stopping the bleeding. At the end of it, my head was quite scabby from the cuts. I had a business meeting a week or so later - but everyone was kind enough to not say anything about my head.
Moving on... I can usually get the job done these days without any trouble. My weapon of choice is still an open comb, and my current favourite for the job is an Open Comb Micromatic - the SE blade seems to be effective and quite forgiving. For soap, I'll use whatever I fancy that day, but for a brush I tend to like one quite large - the Semogue SOC is a good noggin brush.

Do you guys get BBS on the ol' dome?
The skin up there doesn't have the same "give" that your face does, and seems to leave some stubble (to the touch) behind. Any comments?
One, two! One, two! and through and through...The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

I do a 1 pass ATG with de's or se's and get BBS all the time.I'm lucky I dont suffer razor burn or irritation on olde Thunderdome,I do get a occasional weeper but that's it.

I get BBS every time if I do ATG. Occasionally, I will do WTG with the straight and let it go. In those cases, it isn't stubble free but 'good enough'. Some of the success might be that there really isn't any 'give' to speak of. When I carve away, the whiskers either get clipped or the razor snags. I used to have a heckuva time with that in the past (snagging razors) but I must be doing something right because lately I buzz through pretty quickly. FWIW - my head hair is tougher than my face hair.

I bought some HeadSlick the other day and used it this morning for a quick one-pass with the Feather - on my face. That stuff makes a great regular shave cream. Areas that sometimes snag (corner of my mouth has a mini-mole) were passed over easily.
I haven't even tried it on my head - my normal soaps work fine there. I'm pretty pumped that it works so well on the face.
