Default New From Chicago - My face has turned against me.

So, I am 39 and have developed a problem that I can no longer tolerate.

I have spent the past many many years only having to shave a couple times a week and not for very long. I have used the most common "razors" available at any retail outlet, Mach 3, then Fusion Power respectively. My shaving only required a quick palm full of cheap shaving gel and off I went whacking away for about 5 minutes. Easy, fast, decent shave every time. But that has changed.

It started out innocently enough at my neck. The hairs began to grow in many directions and have become very, very coarse. Any time I try to shave now, I bleed all over and can never truly shave them effectively. The sides of my face have now become harder to shave as well requiring several passes at numerous angles as well. The time to shave has multiplied and the blood loss has become more noticeable. My upper lip/beneath my nose has never given me a problem and I have never been able to grow a goatee so no trouble there. So now what?

Like any other intelligent individual, I ran to the inter web and googled my newly found conundrum, stumbling upon this web site! It's like a whole new world has opened up to me. i don't think I have ever truly "shaved" in my entire life. I don't know what to call what I was doing to my face. There is so much information here and I am truly thankful.

I will continue my fact gathering and I plan to make some purchases soon. I will try several different things and will settle on a style and equipment set that is best for me, but, I want to take this opportunity, now, to say hello, and say thank you and to all of you who have shared so much and to those who own and moderate this site.

Thank you and see you around the site!

Welcome to B & B. There is a lot of great information on this site, and you have in Chicago a great bricks and mortar store.

    Sam,

Welcome, and since you are in Chicago, are you aware of the shaving "convention" we are having at Merz Apothecary this Thursday? Please check it out, and hope to meet you there!
Brian - I think it would be totally inappropriate for me to even contemplate what I am thinking about.

Wow! Thanks guys, for everything. I was just looking at all the DE shaving topics and I am definitely intrigued, looking at the Merkur HD. The link to the convention looks interesting as well. I am in the south burbs and have been to the Palmer House, just need to check my schedule. The Expo should be amazing.

Welcome, Sam! The Merkur HD is a great razor. I own one and it's considered a very good starting razor.

Remember, the order is TECHNIQUE > PREP > PRODUCTS > RAZOR.
Razor and blade choice is important, but the others will make a much bigger difference much quicker!

Welcome Sam! Your face will be glad that you decided to make the change. Sounds like you're considering a DE, what turned you off about a straight razor?
