My friend and I once obsessively went through every glass in my kitchen to find the best one for drinking spirits from. The Glencairn is the one.

Thought I'd update the thread. I did finally get the set of "MadMen" glasses. They're excellent. Heavy and quite large. (12 oz filled to the top)
The base is very thick giving it a solid feel in the hand and stable when you put it down. Drinking from these glasses feels very luxurious and manly.

(yeah, know there's ice in that Scotch. I fish it out after a minute or so.)

The problem with these, I think, is they are just too fragile. Everyone I know that uses them has at least one with a tiny chip in the lip. Granted, one could be more careful, but I'm not sure they NEED to be so fragile.

Plus, I remember reading somewhere recently, that all this talk about things tasting in particular ways because of where they hit your tongue (Riedel's reason for the shape) is just outmoded science. What do I know, though. I prefer either a Glencairne glass, or a small ISO tulip tasting glass.

I also prefer Glencairn or any other tulip shaped glass for my whisky. The blenders nosing glass is also quite good - like this Ardbeg with a lid
