I too want the slick look with the hold. I have tried bycreem and groom and clean. Anything that has the hold like a hairspray (I use consort extra hold unscented) but want the shine too. What products do you recommend? And where do you buy them?
Jerry
I've tried bycreem and groom and clean is there a better product with a former hold and a shine?
I am the OP
Okay, i have tried Brylcream & Dax both doesnt hold hair more than a hour.... I tried hard gel but then my hair get climped together and falls as well...
I guess there is something really wrong with my hair texture....
if u want true hold try murrays pomade. its going to hold but not much shine. not sure how strong of a hold it is but i always like royal crown. its very Vaseline like and should hold great and add some nice shine

What is the best for a high shine and firm hold? I have used hairspray groom and clean, bycreem and would like something better. Any recommendations?
I have wax that I use with aloe vera that gives me the shine/hold without looking too greasy. Lasts a real long time too! It all comes down to finding a product that works for you (which is true for almost everything!)
I went through maybe 8-10 different wax products and maybe 5-6 different gel products until my friend brought me back some amazing goop from his trip!

Murray's pomade for extreme hold, Brylcreem for slick, wet and moderate hold. I usually use Murray's as a base coat and go over the top with Brylcreem to give it some shine. However, for that hairstyle, I would comb it whilst using a blow dryer to give it some height. Best of luck with it.
Call me Tom.
I also use Murray's.
Being active duty I have to keep it VERY tight during the week. I have a 3 step process.. After shower I add a tonic and comb.. Drive to work (50mins). Once at my locker, I slick it with the Murray's then I add a little Groom and Clean for a little for hold and I like the smell...
I did like Layrite but if it is hot out or you start sweating it starts to feel like a hair gel that got wet.. Not too mention its like 14.00 USD for the same size can of Murray's for 2.00USD at Walmart or Sweet Georgia Brown for 7.00USD online..
I personally love Groom & Clean. I wear my hair like Don Draper. For me, the key to getting good hold with this product is to make sure that your hair is almost completely dry when you put it in. You want a little moisture in your hair, but not very much at all. When my hair is too damp and I put Groom & Clean in it it doesn't hold at all. It makes sense because it is a water based product, and it washes out very easily with water (unlike Brylcreem) so if your hair is too wet, it won't hold at all. Just my $0.02 (and you can't beat the price)
Once again I have to say GRANTS GOLDEN BRAND! the stuff is a fine USA made product. The premiere hair pomade for all hair types.Continuous restyling for hours.Custom light almond scent, high gloss finish and a strong hold.
this product is water based and will wash out easily in the shower.

I recommend you to use herbal or home products like aloe vera gel or shampoo to condition your hairs.
Murrays or NuNile for good hold and finish off with Royal Crown Pomade for shine, if you want real high shine (think 1950's greaser or business man) then top coat it with Royal Crown Hair Dressing.
Old enough to know better, but still to young to care!!....
This is off topic, but:
How long does it take to style your hair like that in the morning? How long do you have to grow your hair out? I'd like a longer and classic hairstyle as well, but I'm not sure if I can handle the maintenance necessary for this kind of hair.
How long does it take to slick it back? If you're not adding any anal steps to the process it shouldn't take more than a minute or two. A few seconds if you rush it.
As for how long it takes to grow it out: depends on how long your hair currently is and how fast your hair grows.
Has anyone else tried Russian bear oil? It's such a great name for a product, but I know nothing about it beyond what's already been said in this thread.
If you don't mind a slightly waxy/greasy feel to your hair, you might try one of the lanolin and wax cremes. Wildroot is the most available(Walgreens carries it) and best known, but several other companies make their own version: master well comb, Gables Creme, and I believe booster makes one as well.
There is a Tom Waits song that goes "That fresh egg yeller is too damn rare But the white part is perfect for slickin' down your hair."
American Crew pomade worked wonders for me when I was rocking my Mad Men type cut.
