    Post Castle Forbes

Just noticing this morning that classicshaving.com has added a few Castle Forbes products, has anyone ever had any experience with these?

Top quality products all around. This is a small, family run company that designs, tests and makes their own product. The shaving cream is fairly thick, but I treat mine like a soap and it works great. The scents are from essential oils and their Lime smells like you cut open a fresh lime and dipped your brush in it and the Lavender is a wonderful fresh scent. The scents, though natural in smell are quite strong and unlike anything I have come across in a shaving cream.

This will be my next purchase...Castle Forbes Lime SC...I purchased a nearly full bottle of their Lime Balm from Valdez ( Mark) months ago and the scent of Lime is outstanding...can't wait to try the cream.

Their Lavender cream is one of my favorites. I'm also a fan of their ASB.

I received a sample of their Lime SC from Jim at Vintage Blades when I bought my Shavemac Silvertip. Great product! Very strong smell and lathered up very good. It is thicker than most other creams though. Like Jfrancisco said, you can use it as a soap.

I think they are overrated and overpriced. Nevertheless, I do like their Lavender cream.

Exactly why I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet... The lime sounds wonderful, but at that price... and the container certainly doesn't look like it has very much in there... I almost just can't imagine it being worth it...

    +1

I like both their lavender and their lime - however both are highy overrated, and while I own both of their creams, their balm and their pre-shave, I will not be buying any more castle forbes shaving products in the future.

FYI - might want to check the review section, as their are CF reviews as well

I feel the same way. I do like their creams, but I don't feel they are worth the price.

Although they are quite expensive, I received a generous sample of the Lime from Jim at VintageBlades and was very impressed by it. I was definitely skeptical at first due to its cost but I was immediately impressed by its lathering capabilties, wonderful fresh limey scent, as well as the small amount of product that it takes to produce enough lather for 3 passes. I agree that its texture is more akin to soap (Valobra soft soap comes to mind) and therefore may last much longer than a regular cream which may justify its higher cost. That being said, I have yet to make the leap to purchase a full tub of the Lime (in the throes of too many other AD's) but I feel the compulsion starting to overcome me.
    Cheers,

CS Lime is the best smelling Lime on the market and the most expensive.

I have used CF, Coates and T&H lime creams and have to give the nod to CF as the best smelling...cf, T&H and Coates in that order. The Coates actually smelled really bad to me but did give a nice shave.

The CF is expensive but you really don't need much of it to get a great lather.

I always thought CF was a "Sweeter" scent and QED was more "tart." IMO. Both are great scents in their own way. CF *is* on the pricey side....

Or you can go cheap and order a huge tub of JM Fraser SC which, to me, smells just like the CF limes. I still love my container of CF though.

I have a tub of CF limes and I've found that while most of my creams require about an almond sized amount of cream for a good 3 pass shave, CF only requires about 1/2 of that.

I usually do a 2-3 pass shave w/an injector and using either a Simpson Major or Rooney small brush. The amount of lather I get from CF using this much cream is about perfect IMO.

Taking that into consideration, I think CF is a pretty good value.

Love CF products. Pricey but good. I usually only use them on special occasions. Fraser's is almost the same scent as my CF Limes sample.
