    Default Rock Climbing

I am just wondering if there are many classic shaving climbers out there. What kind of climbing do you do? Where do you climb? Indoors or outdoors? How did you get started?

I used to sport climb a lot... sprained my wrist bouldering and could never realyl get back into it.

My wife and I would climb at the college fitness center that had a wall and we would road trip 4-5 hours to get to natural rocks, either the Red River Gorge or the New River Gorge. We both miss climbing but don't really have a good way to stay active and fit for it.

I keep thinking of trying to get back into it but don't want to throw down the money for a woody in my basement. I still have a large chalk pot, a couple of harnesses, multiple pairs of shoes and lord knows how many pounds of superchalk in my approach bag.

I used to climb a fair bit in college. Since I was in new orleans there weren't any outdoor options but there were a couple of good indoor gyms. I did do one outdoor camping and climbing trip though.

I still have my gear. Unfortunately I've gotten fat and lazy since then and haven't climbed at all in several years.

Used to about 20 years ago when I lived in So. Utah. Since then, like stated above, I have gotten lazy. To be honest I did a geocache a year or so ago and I had to climb about 15ft up to a cut out. Only thing that kept running through my head was... "What the hell are you doing? Do you know how much work you'll miss if you fall!"

Maybe I will change that Lazy to Cautious.

I climb 3-4 days per week indoors in local LA area gym and I have been on some outdoor climbing adventures (mostly Joshua Tree) but I do not own any gear so the trips happen only when we can find someone with crash pads, ropes, harnesses, etc. I mostly boulder but enjoy sport climbing too. My goal was to find another climbing buddy to climb outdoors with.

I started climbing in the Boy Scouts and eventually purchased all my own gear and went every other weekend for several years. Most of the climbing I did was top rope because that was all they allowed due to the type of rock at the state park near me.

I finally stopped climbing after a fall in Colorado while scouting a different route, but eight years later I still have all my gear just rotting away under my bed.... Maybe someday I will start again if I ever get back into shape.

Used to climb regularly at an indoor gym 10 years ago. Didn't have most of my own gear so never got to climb in the wild. Schedule/job changes meant i stopped.

I remember when I used to climb in my early 20's I went out bouldering one day, climbed up this boulder and got on the top thinking I was king of the world, only to realise that it was bigger than I'd accounted for and I couldn't get down!!!

Oh, climbing, my first love. Spent years aged 13-30 climbing on and off. Was into mostly long "easy" trad climbs in the Gunks. Maybe up to 5.8 or so, but mostly just wanted to get out and have fun. Did some sport stuff, pushed the difficulty, but nevr liked it too much. Hardest ever was a 5.12a on toprope, 11b lead. When I moved to CT I stopped climbing and got into martial arts. Love it, but I miss climbing a ton.

Since I now live in New York City, I don't often get the chance to climb much anymore. I have started to consider bouldering. People do it often in central park. I used to live in Kentucky and took frequent trips to the Red River Gorge to climb. Sport mostly, trad occasionally. Most routes there are 5.10 and above and there are thousands of routes. I miss it terribly. Especially the pizza at Miguel's after a long day of climbing. I got started by proximity I suppose.
