    Default Glenmorangie 1971

I was in Portland last week and we stopped by Kell's Irish Restaurant & Pub for a pint and a snack.

I saw on the scotch list a Glenmorangie 1971 for $32 per shot. Now, i know someone who is a scotch lover and was born in 1971 so I thought "this would be an awesome birthday present".

Then I saw how much it sells for...http://www.sendliquor.com/id107589li...33&zmap=107589

Better be a very good friend. I'd hate to think of how much that is per sip.

Glenmorangie is a very nice Scotch, but the aging stops the moment it's bottled. So, with regards to age, the age at bottling is what you should be looking at.

    I think she's worth it.

That's a good point but the whole purpose of getting the 1971 would be more sentimental being her birth year and all.

For my birthday, some time ago, my wife got me a bottle of the Macallen 25 year old Anniversary edition, in the little wood suitcase. That site sells the 25 year old, http://www.sendliquor.com/id107600list35product.html, but they don't even offer the Anniversary edition. I still have it, unopened, by the way. It didn't cost near that, at the time.

You can find it at $200 less, if you're serious about buying it, at http://blmwine.com/spirits_instock.shtml

At that price, I would definitely buy it.

    Thanks!

I bought a 1969 Oban as a gift for a special occasion and it was about $320. I hope I get an invite when he cracks the seal on that baby.

To be honest, if you are going to be spending that much, you can get your friend, much better Scotch than that. The 1971 part is cool, but for that much money, I want a top notch Scotch.

I've never had the 71, but I've had some Vintage Glenmorangies and IMO they are nowhere worth the money they cost. They have been pleasant, yes, but not $300 pleasant. I checked Michael Jackson's Review of the 1971, he gave it an 86, a solid score, but many, many bottles under $50 rate higher.

If you are looking for something around that price, I'd look at Glenmorangie Cote de Nuits Finish, a highly rated Vintage or well aged MaCallan or Balvenie, or my personel favorite Higland Park 25, a glorious spirit, if I don't say so myself.
