    Default Morning Surprise

    Good Day All;

    Look what showed up at work today. My first real vintage DE. What's the deal with those blades?

    Congrats, Shawn... very nice cased Black Tip! Those blades are probably more decorative than functional. If you try them, I wouldn't expect a smooth and comfortable shave (unless, of course, you're well-experienced with vintage carbon-steel blades, and even then, they may not have held up well).

    I read that over a little too quick and thought the Black Tip doesn't shave well. I am going to scrub it down tonight and shave - thinking Astra as the blade. What's the deal with vintage blades then? I mean are they just to fill in the spot in the case?

    Very nice Shawn !! Black tips are very under rated razors IMHO. I have a couple of them and they never fail to give a great , smooth shave.

    Nicely scored. There were scads of blade brands back in the original DE era, most long gone, like your FANs. I'd save them for display.

    The razor looks great, and all varieties of 40's Super Speeds are great shavers. I like my black tips a lot.
