I'm done with briefcases. After years of carrying one, I am switching to something that will better serve my needs, and hold an ipad, netbook, a textbook or two (I teach) and a stack of papers. So I opted for the Red Oxx gator bag in all black:

It is actually designed as a carry on bag, but the size is perfect for me. Smaller than a briefcase, it is also perfect for day trips or kicking around San Francisco. I don't care that it doesn't look like a traditional briefcase, as in my line of work people care more about your effectiveness than the image you project.

Been wanting to show everyone this for ages. Finally got round to it. This was originally selling for around 3,280 yuan I think but I got it for 800. A bloody good case from 2.1mm cow leather. Can't really be faulted as far as I'm concerned. Though I don't carry it often as it makes me self-conscious.

My Timbuk2 finally started falling apart, so I was looking for a new briefcase too. I HEAVILY considered a Saddleback Thin....I can't count how many times one was in the shopping cart with my credit card number already filled out and the mouse hovering over "Submit". At the same time I was torn over a Filson 257 Briefcase Computer Bag. Eventually the Filson won out because of price, how the interior is laid out, and I appreciate things that are made in the USA. Also, while it's not as light as my Timbuk2, it is lighter than the Saddleback. I can carry it around all day without much issue. There are a lot of discussions online about Filson briefcases (with pictures) and you can be sure that they will last decades and patina awesomely, and when it does finally break down Filson has the greatest warranty ever!

    Here it is:

Don't be fooled and think this is the same as most canvas and leather bags you see. The 22oz canvas Filson uses is twice as heavy as most competitors and the full grain bridal leather used throughout is about a strong as leather comes. This is a stiff bag that I look forward to breaking in over the years.

Here's the interior. I carry this to work everyday as an IT professional and carry my 14" Lenovo, iPad, book for whatever cert I'm working on, plus accessories like pens/pencils/sharpie, chargers, ethernet cable, leatherman, 2nd gen iPod Nano, headphones, and Moleskine. There's room for a 15.4" laptop, but probably not a 17".

And you can't beat an eternal warranty:

As a Saddleback Thin owner, that Filson is a great bag.
