Default This morning I missed a pass and got a closer shave.

    Hello Gents.

I normally shave WTG, XTG and ATG but have noticed the usual stubbly left overs that need polishing off. This morning I cut out the middleman and went WTG and then ATG and found it to be a closer shave with less irritation.

I was using a derby blade in a Gillette Slim dialled way down to 3. I am thinking that by going XTG was reducing the stubble to much so when I went ATG the blade was missing the stubble.

I know we are all different in how we need to shave but has anyone else noticed this.

If your blade's reducing the stubble to the point where a pass can no longer catch it then another pass is no longer necessary. Chances are your XTG pass was just redundant and all you needed was WTG/ATG

Yep I see what you mean. WTG/ATG is all my beard type needs. My skin also feels so much better today. This is one of those EURIKA moments since I starting DE shaving.

On my cheeks I do WTG/ATG while on my neck I do WTG/XTG as ATG is rather harsh for now.

WTG wasn't doing much for me on consecutive days of shaving, so most days I do XTG / ATG.

I'll only do WTG when I've skipped one or more days.

I am getting good shaves with 2 WTG and 1 ATG. I used to use 1 WTG, 1 ear to chin and 1 chin to ear, then ATG.

I pretty much discovered that WTG also didn't do much of anything for me other than increase irritation. I now often do an XTG only shave, or XTG and ATG when I want a very close shave. Aggressive razors work well for me with this technique.

I have settled into a similar routine on my neck around the adam's apple (WTG/ATG). If I added a XTG pass, it was razorburn galore.

Rest of my face and sides of the neck I do WTG/XTG though.

That is interesting...I initially started out doing WTG and ATG but was getting too much irritation. I added XTG and it got better but on off days when I don't have a lot of stubble I might not need the XTG...thanks for the insight.

Give it a few more shaves before you make your mind up - you might have just been really dialed in today, there's no guarantee you can repeat ....

I have talked to two other friends who have had closer than normal shaves from yesterday without reason. And I too was BBS for nearly 20 hours which is highly unusual. Especially without trying. We three are straight shavers.

I can get rid of a lot of my stubble with the first WTG pass, provided I use a very sharp blade and an aggressive razor (Feather in a Fatboy at 7 or above). Then I dial it down to 5 or so for an XTG pass, and after that I don't require an ATG pass.

    YMMV.

After cutting my shaggy lawn, then having a stiff G&T, I accidentally did the same thing this afternoon. Just plum forgot the XTG. A WTG/ATG usually isn't good enough. I think I just got lucky this time.

I did the same this morning and got the same results. I am currently using TBS Maca Root this week but will revert back to MWF next week and see if I get the same results. Just to see if the ingredients I am using are playing a part.

    Thanks for the input Gents.
