    Default Got a Muhle r99 - r89 - fatip

Curiosity got the best of me so I ordered one of these from Fendrihan. It came today so I havent used it yet. Overall the razor is well made with no construction flaws on mine. The finish seems on about on par with the Merkur razors but not up to the current Muhle level. The design of the head permits a little slop in loading the razor as the bottom plate holes seem a little larger than the posts. The blade can be put in a little off center if you dont watch it.

Now here is the question part. The blade exposure is much greater than the other razors I've tried thus far. So much that it leads me to question if the comb is ever supposed to touch the skin. Is that the way you shave these? Meaning err on the side of a too shallow blade angle rather than too steep.

Yes. If you see comb tracks in your lather, adjust your angle. For me, that works for any open comb.

Congratulations on a fantastic razor! You'll find it to be a smooth and close shaver.

That's right, you want to feel the blade on the skin, not the comb. At least that's how I do it.

Thanks. With how much blade is unsupported/exposed I wonder if this razor would do better with a stiff blade.

Well I tried it this morning with good success. I used a Personna Lab. Not necessarily a closer or better shave than what I get with the Merkur OC or the Old Type but no worse either. I think with some practice I might find this the best of my rotation. Nothing to fear, if you keep the angle shallow and tread lightly.
