Default MPG Santal Vs Knize Ten

Call me crazy...but does anyone notice similarities in these two?
I just received a sample of the MPG and could not put my finger on what it smelled like, though thought it was familiar. I got rid of my Knize, so cant compare directly...
I know Santal has the sandalwood, and Knize is more of a leather/powder.

I really get no similarities between the two, but maybe my nose is off...

No, none at all. One is a Sandalwood fragrance, while the other being an old school, finely tuned leather that carries a certain air of nobility about itself. Now I say that with no bias, as Santal Noble is my gold standard for Sandalwood fragrances, and I measure all other's by it. As for Knize Ten it is a solid performer, takes about 20 minutes or so for it to settle down, but upon doing so I can't say enough about this Leather fragrance. Just a view from the cheap seat's.

A world of difference between the two.

No you are not crazy. Fragrances, and I mean any, and or all take on a different smell to the wearer. If one reminds you of the other that simply means that one puts you in mind of the other. Nothing less, nothing more. That is the great thing about the wearing of fragrances, we can all simply have a different opinion. Just my $0.02 worth. ( Damn, does any of what I just said make any sense?)

Yes, it makes complete sense. There might be a bit of "something" in the MPG Santal that does indeed remind you of a bit of "something" in Knize Ten. Although viewing both perfumes as a whole I agree with everyone that they are nothing alike, that doesn't mean there can't be "a bit of something" similar that would remind you of one or the other. Then of course there's all that YMMV stuff and all.

I agree with all the others that, no, they are very different but, yes, one may still remind you of the other. It's been awhile since I smelled either, but I can understand where you are coming from, especially based on your memory of one. I do remember the first time or two I wore Knize Ten being amazed at how soft and powdery the drydown seemed after the wild opening, and I can imagine that amazingly smooth powdery drydown seeming similar to a sandalwood scent in memory.

Yes, this. As you try new stuff, the first few wears may evoke other scents. But after a time you'll notice big differences. MPG is very prominent sandalwood. Knize Ten is heavy leather and a bit floral...almost has a petroleum note too.

It is easy to see how two different fragrances can remind you of each other. The first time I smelled Yatagan, Giorgio's Red immediately popped to mind. Over time, I seem to have lost that association.

I enjoy these memory associations, especially when I can go back and compare the two side by side and either realize they are similar, or wonder "What was I thinking?".

I do remember a recent thread in this forum in which someone claimed that Knize Ten has a nice sandalwood drydown. Maybe that is what you picked up on. My nose did not pick up sandalwood in Knize Ten though.

Probably going to stick my foot in my mouth on this one again...but I think for me, it was the other way around...I get a powderish note from the santal(ONLY IN THE BEGINNING) that reminds me of the opening note on Knize.

Give it up, cut your losses.

We all do it. I associate frags together that are worlds apart to other folks. It has something to do with our sensitivity to particular scent profiles. At least that is my theory!
