Dept Store Deodorant vs. Budget Deodorant

Hey all! Quick question...other than scent and price, what are the primary differences between department store designer deodorants and the deodorants typically found in the grocery/drug store? (I.E. a $20 CK deodorant vs. a $2 stick of Degree)

I wish for me. I have to use the $7 clinical deodorant and it does not always work. I know a doctor trip is due but the cost for otc deo is scary being a college student.

Have you tried Mitchum clear gel antiperspirant? I've found it to be the most powerful on the shelf, by far... and that means I can use way less of it.

I find the drugstore deos much more efficient

I tried some Acqua Di Gio and some other deisgner deo, and man, a few hours later my armpits would stink

I prefer the inexpensive grocery store products. I don't want a $15 antiperspirant overpowering a $100 EdT.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a shot.

Be sure to get the liquid roll-on. The solid doesn't work nearly as well. Also be sure to follow the instructions as closely as you can--apply at night as far after/before your shower as you can (that will make more sense in the instructions). It will itch a bit but it's certainly worth it. Hope it works for you!

Most of the "fashion" deodorants I have tried, from Hermes to L'Occitane to Drakkar Noir, have almost always disappointed me. I like all these brands for some specific things they produce, but "brand extensions" into areas such as deodorants are a doozy. Sure, their deos smell good, but last for about 3 seconds.

Same for more run of the mill makers like Adidas or L'Oreal Men. Even Nivea "24 Hours Active" or whatever it's called -- I think they mistook "minutes" for "hours".

I live in a tropical climate and have a naturally profusely perspiring physique for some reason. After years of trying a variety of things, what ultimately works for me now is pretty simple:

1. Keep yourself trimmed or shaved (this helps a lot)
2. Use gels or roll-ons -- they almost always offer more longevity than sprays
3. Try the specialist deo brands like Certain-Dri or Degree (which are fairly cost effective)

So to answer your question: ignore the department or expensive style brands and stick to specialists in this area.

I have the same problem. I've never tried the clinical stuff so I have no idea if it would work for me but none of the drug store brands work for me except two. Old spice works to a certain extent but the only one that really truly works for me is the Degree.

Scent will be subjective but I like the one in the orange container. I even think I can pick up a vetiver note in there but no it doesn't smell like vetiver just a note in there. The problem is I find it smells different in the container than it does on the body so you may not know what it's gonna smell like till you use it a few times. I hate the one in the yellow container even though it works but the scent is very sharp and doesn't quite smell nice with my body chemistry. They have a new one in a black container that's a sport scent but I've never tried it.

Check out Crystal Stick. I've always had sweat problems, it seemed deodorants would work for an hour or two then the sweat would get through. The Mitchum line of deodorants worked well but still not awesome. Finally I discovered Crystal Stick and it's incredible. No scent, no harsh chemicals (aluminum compounds, etc.) like all other deodorants, and the stick lasts over a year.

In case anyone got curious about my description of the vetiver note in that degree I have some news. I just bought some more tonight since I was running out and they have changed the scent. I'm not sure it's a bad thing yet though. I think it still has that woodsy scent but it seems to be starting off with a sweeter green apple scent. I find it quite good for a cheap drugstore brand but don't forget I think the one in the yellow container stinks. lol They also had another new one called everest ice I think if anyone has interest in that.
