    Question San Francisco Hotels

The last night of my honeymoon we'll be staying in San Fran. I know quite a few of you know the city pretty well so I'm looking for a suggestion on where to stay.

We'd like a place where we can park and then walk around to see the sites - for example Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf sounds like it might fit the bill. There is also the Westin St. Francis which is right on Union Square which sounds ok.

Neither of us have been there so it's all new to us. We will only be there Friday so we won't have a lot of time.

    Thanks.

Well I've been to SF on a couple of occasions and I can highly recommend the Fairmont San Franciso. Location is great also.
Central to the Financial District, Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf, The Fairmont San Francisco is located at the only spot in San Francisco where each of the City's cable car lines meet

My wife and I stayed here a few years ago. It was affordable, very neat & clean, and the service was great. Nice break from the cookie cutter chains.

The Westin-St. Francis would definitely work. SF isn't very big, so everything is a short cab ride away.

Thanks Bob. Is the Wharf kind of a large walking tourist area? We will probably be pretty beat and not really up for doing anything specific but a nice large area to walk around would be nice... kinda just see what looks good instead of setting off for anything specific.

Exactly what it is. Here is a site with some info. If you know that is where you want to go then stay at the Sheraton right there. When will you be out here?

I thought that's what kind of place it was but wasn't too sure. Thanks for the website.

My wife stayed at the Hyatt Regency on the Embarcadero on our way to Hawaii and it was very nice.

Living here, I've never actually stayed in a hotel in SF. But I think you would want to stay in the Union Square area, simply because its easy to get anywhere from there. Fisherman's Wharf is touristy and sort of schlocky.

I've spent a night there. It's a very nice hotel. At the entrance, you'll see pictures of actors, presidents, royalty, etc. who have stayed there over the years.

Amen to that. We went to the Warf maybe twice in the two weeks we were there for our honeymoon. I'm glad we had a hotel closer to Union Square.

http://www.hoteltriton.com/ this hotel is very eclectic, but we had a grand time there. Right in front of Chinatown too on Grant Ave.

    +1

I lived in SF for 12 years and always recommended people stay in the Union Square area and not the Fisherman's Wharf area. IMO, there are better places to eat around Union Square and a better night life. The cable car runs right through Union Square so you can easily hop one to Fisherman's wharf.

Better yet, catch a Powell and Hyde line and take it to the end. After riding down the steep hill with a fantastic view of the bay, go the the Buena Vista and have an Irish Coffee or two. You wont regret it and will remember the experience forever.

If you have a car and dont want to stay downtown, you should look at the Seal Rock Inn. Its way out by the ocean and a short walk to the Cliff House which has fantastic dining. For breakfast, there is a funky place called Louie's right there. Big servings, good coffee, and spectacular views.

Ditto on Cliff House. The food is so so, but its hard to screw up a brunch. The views are amazing. They renovated, so I don't know if its still there, but right behind Cliff House was/is a nickelodian museum where you can play with all the old machines. Great time.
