Default That vicious Apollo blade gap!

I have been shaving with my Apollo Mikron on a setting of '2' and it's doing a marvelous job! This is one hefty razor but it has wonderful balance. What I like so much about this early adjustable is that the settings move smoothly from 1 up to 8 with no divisions. I could very easily set it to 2.25 or 3.5. I don't have the guts to try it on '8' but I am guessing it would be like shaving with a straight razor!

Thanks. It is an Apollo Mikron from Germany. I think it dates from the 1950's or 1940's but I am not certain. I emailed the company that made them, Herkenrath-Apollo, but they told me their historical records were not found when they purchased the company :-(

I just shaved with it on the 8th setting a few minutes ago. This required a sure, light touch. Parts of my face got scalped, while other parts are the closest and most comfortable I can ever remember. Apparently, I will have to use the '8' setting only on certain parts of my face, no matter how light my touch is. I have used it several times now and I am beginning to think it is the finest safety razor I have ever used! I am huge fan of Gillette razors but this Mikron is a very pleasant surprise.
