Semogue 1305 or 830. the 830 is more of a face lathering tool. Also once broken in the bristles are soft with a great backbone. It almost feels like a silvertip no joke. I have a 1305 and its amazing. It also makes mounds of lather and is very easy on your wallet! Look up the reviews.

Any of the Simpsons mentioned will do the job...

Rooney size 1 (any shape) in Super

    Some smaller Savile Row

Shavemac can do a brush for less than $100 in Finest hair

Morris&Fordran brushes (smaller) in Blonde Badger can be had for around $100

Semogue (boars and badger, but the boars are terrific) SOC boar or 2-band badger - my fav boar is the SOC

Omega boars, you could buy one of each for less than $100

All great suggestions. For me, I'd go with the Duke 2. If you decide you want to spend a little less, consider the Berkeley 46 in best.

Absolutely check the BST, as I type there are some first class brushes up for sale, well within your price range. Hint: "Rudy Vey" EverReady

Simpson Duke 2. I face lather with that brush nearly every day. It's a fantastic brush.

Its knot is about the same size as my Colonel, but not quite as dense - which makes it more versatile for use with creams. And it is still excellent with soaps.
I would totally SECOND this recommendation! BEST bang for the buck by FAR. I've own-ed 6 brushes $100+ and think that you can do no wrong with the Berkeley!

I own both, and love them. The Colonel is a better choice if its to be your only brush. A great all around performer

I recently acquired a Commodore X2 and was pleasantly surprised at how good a brush it is. Plus, I really like how the handle feels in hand. It was my first Simpson brush with Best hair and it's really pretty darn good!

Wow guys, thanks for all the suggestions. After reading them all, I figure I can't go wrong with a Colonel, it will be on my Christmas list this year. Speaking of Christmas, are there generally good shaving/brush/supplies on sale at Christmas? Thanks again for all the replies.
