I understand it's all in the rules, I just don't understand why a waiting period of 45 days is necessary to post a WTB thread. I understand not being allowed to sell. I guess there's no way to regulate someone who's posting a new thread and limit to only WTB.
The main reason WTB and FS are both limited to members who have been on the forum for 45 days, have made 50 posts, and can only create a post every 14 days is because both topics are posted into the same forum and the forum is set to these numbers. No other reason.
These numbers (45/50/14) are set by the forum owners and moderators. There are many topics on "why" these numbers were chosen. I don't think you are asking that so I won't go into them. Your question seems to be why WTB and FS are treated the same and the answer to that is that both topics are created in the WTB/FS forum so they are the same (in the eyes of the forum software).
Think of it as Apples and Oranges that are priced at 50˘ each. It does not matter if you by an apple or an orange it is going to cost you 50˘ It does not matter if you post a WTB or a FS as the post is going into the same forum that cost 50˘ (i.e. has the same requirements).

A suggestion - write up a proposal FOR your side. Include as many specific arguments showing that your proposal will make the B+B a better place as possible, and give specific examples. If you can make a strong enough case, the mods have proved in the past that they'll listen.

The interesting thing about WTBs that seems to be not mentioned much is that there is a seller at the other end of each one. And on that end, the whole 45/50 every two weeks rules - tossed. Peer review and scrutiny of the transaction - tossed. Transaction price history - tossed. It's PM underground and not in the spirit of how we all like the BST to run.
Those are just my thoughts on the subject, ymmv.

Personally, I think the whole process takes place in the PM underground. Don't get me wrong, I've had great experiences with many gents on these forums but I've also had some stinkers.
Imagine this scenario: A gent tries to sell a Feather AS DE razor in the original box, in mint condition, but wants $200 plus shipping to sell it. I'm sure that there would be a bunch of posts telling him that you can get it much cheaper at a certain vendor and that includes free shipping. On the flip side, he posts it at a reasonable price and then gets a PM telling him that all the person has is $80 and is willing to pay right now if he sells it to him. If that was posted on the thread people would likely jump on that and decry the lack of a gentlemanly offer. But that doesn't happen because the buyer is protected by the process, everything happens in the PM.
I don't see the process changing and no matter how much hullabaloo happens as a result of changes people still come here to buy and sell. I just think it is fair to point out that while all transactions come under scrutiny in the BST guidelines it only happens openly on the seller side of things.

I understand where you are coming from. I am often hesitant to post WTB threads in other forums as well. The only benefit in my eyes, is if I'd like a specific item that is not offered FS, someone may have it and may be willing to sell it. To me, if you want something, and it's posted that you do, you'd most likely be willing to spend a little more to have it. I'm not for price gouging at all, but it may sway someone to sell their item to you where as they may not have sold it to begin with.
I've never seen a b/s/t forum move items as fast as they go here, and I find that amazing. It's very difficult sometimes to get what you want from a F/S thread, which is where the WTB's can really shine.
Clarification on how the BST works. Is it up to the Members to be within the post count and time minimums to post here (and the Mods to catch them, way too much work it seems like), or is it an automated thing that Members are automatically denied posting rights until they've reached the time and post minimums? Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Thanks Gents, I thought so, but wanted to verify.

Life is too short to share that bacon with anyone.
the only complaint i have is that I tend to buy/sell new stuff a lot just to test out since that's what makes it fun for me, and waiting the 14 days to sell stuff I didn't like or already have irks me a tiny bit wonder if if we can have an honor or feedback system to go around the 14day thing
Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent.
