Photos are not mandated, but it behooves you use them because:

1) They help establish proof of possession of the items offered for sale or trade
2) They will give a potential buyer a good idea of the condition of the item and/or quantity remaining
3) We like razor porn!

Question:

i had a razor and head combo set for sale over 7 days ago, no takers on the razor, lots on the head. i had it listed as a combo price of $80 shipped, not i want to separate and sell the razor stand alone for $50 shipped. i did update my listing last post, but it's way down in the rotation of BST listings.

am i ok to list the razor again, in a NEW THREAD, as i now have an asking price for it?

just wondering.

that's the thing...i didn't have a "list price" for the razor only, just a package deal with a RAZOR and Muhle R41 HEAD ONLY, now i want to sell the razor for a fixed price. but i don't want to cause any problems or have an inbox full of PM's waving fingers at me.

i guess technically i can go ahead, as it was a LOT i was selling, now i'm breaking it up and asking for an individual price.

Change your notifications--I get notified by e-mail every time I get a PM (and I don't have to throw those e-mails away). It's very handy and also much easier to search if you want to go back months later and look something up.
Also, you can save the PMs to a text file on your computer before deleting them so you have a record.

what to do when you see an item that is priced too high...ie) relisted at a price that is not 20% off.

do you Pm the seller, post in the thread, let it go if it doesn't affect you, pm moderator?

i sent a PM to a recent posting, politely letting the seller know it was wrong, he never did anything, and now someone has purcahsed it at more then they should have.

If you wait and try to PM the member first, another member may have already proceded with the purchase before we even know about the problem.

Though some folks have expressed the sentiment that the 10 percent bump drops or the 20 percent relisting drop is a lot -

If an item placed for sale in the B/S/T hasn't sold, and then hasn't sold after a price drop, and then gets relisted -
It's either because there is no interest in the item or the price is too high to make people bite.

Interesting, well valued items in the B/S/T can sell within minutes. If it's there week after week after week - that's gotta tell you something.

I haven't said much to anyone about this topic before, but after reading this thread I felt like typing.
Personally - 20% off seems liike a lot to ask for a price reduction. I get the basic premise, but I also know that 20% off a 10.00 fleabay purchase is 2.00 while the same drop on a mulit-hundred dollar item that was purchased from a vendor or another member is quite a big hit to sustain.
Not everyone scours the BST 30 times a day.. or even every week. While I think that there is a good number of members that do that, I'm certain that others do not. Also - sometimes it takes a while for someone to warm up to making a significant purchase. There are probably many reasons someone might not bite on an initial listing. If I had a $700 Zowada for sale - I don't think I'd post it here if I had to take a 20% hit on a relist. But - I would rather sell a Zowada to another B&B member, instead of someone one fishing on an auction site. But that's just me I guess.
I don't buy stuff on ebay to flip it here, nor do I buy stuff here to flip on ebay.. or whereever...if I buy something to shave with and I decide to sell it, it's because it didn't work out or I got something better that pushed it out of its place.
With the 20 pct drop being mandatory - I don't want to buy anything pricey, nor do I want to sell anything that's got a good value. I'm not only interested in the flavor-of-the-month stuff; at this point, most of my shaving interests have transcended the Boxed Gillette scene. Because I believe in a lot of trial/error I either have to take a major financial hit on an investement or deal with selling it on an auction site. I'd rather not sell nice shave gear on fleabay; but that's what I feel I have to do so I can recoup a fair portion of my investment.

I don't think the BST should be a storefront, or that items should be listed endlessly either. Just sayin' - it's a tough ecomomy and nothing out there that I'm looking to buy right now is what I would refer to as inexpensive. So - to sell it here I have to jack the initial price up initially so that a relist won't kill me, and hope for the best. If there's no interest I'll have to post it elsewhere. It just seems to me that there would be another way to handle this - but I guess not.

I tend to agree the Gamma on this one. While I don't sale much or often. I never relist a item for the sole reason of the 20% thing.
While I'm willing to adjust my price some to help the sale I'm not going to drop a $100 item down to $80 just to sale it.

I understand it would be hard to do but I would think the 20% would work better with a set time frame.
Say a 30-45 days. Relist within that time frame then you have to decrease the price.
The thing that doesn't make since to me is the "one time and your done". I don't remember who it was but saw someone had post something a year ago. It didn't sale and a year latter he put it up for sale again. Then get tagged with the "you didn't drop it 20%". It's just my opinion (and everybody has one) but the 20% thing shouldn't apply to something like that.

The good thing about the 20% drop is that it forces you to think long and hard about your asking price; beyond fairness in a strict sense, whether or not it is appealing.

Remember that the BST is a big marketplace guaranteed to have a receptive audience, and for which nobody pays any fees (except to Paypal). That is a huge boon to anyone looking to offload shaving gear. While I understand folks wanting to negotiate more favorable terms for themselves as sellers, you have to remember it's about friend pricing, not maximizing your returns.

IMO, it's far better to list it for 10% less than you wanted and have it sell right away. But that is a tradeoff everyone needs to consider.
