Thumbs up Thumbs up for Larry A. @ Whipped Dog

I just wanted to give two thumbs way up to Larry Andreassen of Whipped Dog straights. Since I got into shaving with a straight razor (hasn't been long) I have been more than happy with the level of service from him. Here is a for instance; I bought the 1/4 Norton honing kit from him recently. I've used it quite a bit and have enjoyed doing so but wanted to try something with a little more surface area to work with. I contacted him to see if he had a full size kit available and if he would be open to a trade in, at a fraction of what I had originally paid for the 1/4 size kit.
I made it clear that I was not at all unhappy with the 1/4 size kit, I just wanted to try the other and that my plan was to sell the 1/4 kit on the BST here or trade it to him if he was interested.
He not only had a kit available at a better price than I found anywhere else but gave me full credit for the original price of the 1/4 Norton kit! This was way above and beyond what I was hoping to do and very much appreciated. This is how it's been with him since day one and it's him and vendors like him that is one of the great things about being a member here.
I know he's not short on good press around here but I wanted to share this anyway.

Edit-Thanks for moving Mods. I didn't think to post it here.

Pretty cool. I've got one of those rolls (not custom, what he sells on his site) to keep my razors in, I like it quite a bit. I was thinking of making my own or asking my wife to sew one up for me but for $18 his was too good to pass up!

He has been the source for my 3 start up blades and I am hoping to eventually venture out and get a new one but man Larry is a great gentleman and if it wasn't for him I would have never tried out str8s

So many people have the same story here. Larry helped many members try straights at a very reasonable price point.

It certainly seems that he is directly responsible for a substantial amount of the new people involved in this great hobby of ours, it would be interesting to do a poll and see how many B&Bers he has touched along the way. It may help us to quantify the number that is due in reparations from the escalating ebay prices. OOPs sorry larry, spent a little too much time over in Berkely this weekend.

I agree. Larry is never anything but helpful. He always goes above and beyond to help anyone on these boards. How do we go about nominating him for a B&B Meritorious shaver award? He sure would deserve it!

Yeah I'm on the list of guys who got their intro to straights in the form of a whipped dog blade and poor man's strop kit, I've recommended the guy to everyone who's ever asked how to start. bless, I still used that Imperial razor from time to time, quite a good shaver

+1 the 'sight unseen' deal is a great idea. I've had my first two straight shaves with one and cut up my first strop pretty good. Ordering the backup strop is recommended :)
