I guess this is an attempt to answer my second question as to why go past 8K, if 8K was truly enough. i guess the answer is most people find it not enough... as they use paste or something else...



i knew price was going to brought up but is irrelevant when talking pure honing quality and was hoping it wouldn't be the provided answer. Price is not a suitable answer to the question is 8K enough performance wise. using paste, it appears 8K is not enough..

For some people 8k is enough, for some it isn't. I could live with a 8k edge if I would have to, and so did a lot of people back then in the old days.

But I don't have to, so I go higher. I consider a good 8k edge an OK shave if done right, and everyone should learn to achieve it before going higher.

A good 8k will still deliver a DFS with ease, but for me, the ATG pass can get a little rough when chasing the BBS.
My most sensitive area is under my nose. If I can get an irritation/weeper free ATG there, I'm very happy, and I get that from my 1k/4k/8k/12k/C-Nat/.5 CrOX
