EJ89/R89 to 2010 R41

I've been following the 2011 R41 threads and think the 2010 R41 may be the next step for me.

How is the 2010 r41 on a scale with ej89/r89? It seems the 2011 R41 maybe more than i want to tackle at this point. (same for straights as this is being compared by some)

I'm guessing the 2010 is somewhere in the middle, but did it cause the same reactions when it was released?

The 2011 Muhle R41 is the most aggressive DE razor. You might want to try a Slant, a 12C OC or an adjustable first. But if you are confident in your technique then go for the new R41. If you don't like it, sell it on BST, it will go fast. I didn't use the previous R41 model but it is known for its mildness.

+1 I agree with Noah. If you want a known step between the EJ89 and the R41 2011, go with his suggestions.

I do have a Progress on the way, are you saying the 2010 r41 is more or less the same as the r89?

Yes thats the way it looks to me, but i have no idea if that makes it more aggressive or milder.

The 2010 r41 is basically the same as the Merkur open comb razors. I've shaved with the Merkur and EJ closed razors and moved on to the Merkur and 2010 Muhle r41 which I now favor. These OC razors shave closer and with less aggressiveness for me - these are easier on me than the Tech such that I rarely have any burn or weepers. There is nearly zero blade gap on these. I think the way these OC razors shave is highly dependent on the user. Nothing to fear on the 2010 r41. Connaught Shaving has em cheap.

Actually, I find the Joris to be a touch more aggressive than either the old R41/Fa Tip or the newest R41. At some point I'll do a three way comparo.

My understanding is that the older R41 was the OC version of the R89. Hopefully someone will correct me if I wrong.

Hello,

IMHO the R89 and the 2010 R41 are totally different razors.

The 2010 R41 is not just simply a R89 with open comb, it's a different head.
The old R41 is supposed to have the same head as the Merkur open combs.

I attached a couple of older pics to illustrate the differences.
You'll notice the different base plates and the different top plates.

I'd be interested in your findings.
