Default How are the whippeddog brushes and handles? (link inside)

I'm thinking about ordering one because the price is just so fantastic for a silvertip badger brush. So does anyone have any experience with these brushes? Here's the one I'm thinking of getting (paired with a ceramic pottery handle):

    $15 for knot plus $5 for handle= a $20 brush.

By the way, this would be my very first brush.

I know nothing about these guys but the fire house brush ticks the boxes for me. Prices seem great aswell.

I know nothing about the handles. A handle is a handle and is a matter of personal preference depending on what they look like. It is ultimately just a tool for holding the hair.

The knots are very soft and dense. I have one in my rotation and have sold them in restores and handmade brushes. They will shed a bit, but because they are so dense, it really isn't a problem.

I have a whipped dog straights knot (22mm silvertip 48mm loft) as one of my 3 decent brushes. The other two are a New Forest 2221 and a Simpsons Colonel X2L in best.

    Backbone
    1. Simpsons
    2. Whipped Dog
    3. New Forest (really floppy)

    Density
    1. Simpsons
    2. Whipped dog (a rather close second)
    3. New Forest

    Soft tips
    1. Simpsons
    2. Whipped dog
    3. New Forest

I pretty much agree with "vegas". Mine's close to my Simpson Colonel X2L in density and softness of tips, whch is high praise indeed. The backbone, however, is not as stiff as I'm used to seeing with my other brushes. Overall the knot represents a great value, like everything else Larry does at Whippeddog. Here's mine, a vintage restore with a 20mm knot set at about 48mm.

Larry just does things well. He is always very cost conscious, but would not sell something, if it was not up to his standards. My dealings with him over the past few years have been 100% satisfactory. So, if Larry says the handle is okay- you can take that to the bank And, if there ever was a problem, he would take of it. Nice man, good businessman, and a great asset to new shavers.

I've currently got 3 of Larry's knots, two 22/65 Best Badger and one 22/65 Silvertip.

Here's a restore with the 22/65 best Badger next to a C&E Small Best Badger.

Just sold the C&E since it wasn't getting any love. The knot I got from Larry is much softer and tons denser. It's shed a minimal amount and really builds a great lather with both creams and soap.

Can't say anything about the handles but the knot is really where it's at with a brush anyway. You'll be happy.
