    Default Acquisitions for September 2011

So what have people picked up this month (yes I know it's barely started)?

I picked up three cigar boxes this afternoon that I plan to convert into storage for my straight razors. They were about $3.50 each and the money goes to charity, which is a nice thing to do by the store I got them from.

Ok, technically I got the straight razor in the picture last month but I got it back this morning after sending it to someone for a bit of a polish. That turned into a rescale after the original scales snapped and it arrived back this morning looking pretty spiffy.

    Default Japanese AS

Went to Mitsuwa Marketplace today. Mandom AS and Lucido AS by Mandom! They had Bravas too but I'm saving that for another day.

Got my bay rum sampler in from Barclay Crocker today - does that count? Already interested in a couple of the scents.

    Default First of the month!

Got these from the Golden Nib. I'm installing the knot in that handle. Looking forward to trying out the Omega Ω soap!

Well, the package from Londons Bathecary arrived today. I was most happy to see it show up since it contained Czech and Speake 3x25g cakes of Oxford and Cambridge and #88. I REALLY like the Oxford and Cambridge scent. There was also a 100ml bottle of Taylor Luxury Lavender Water. It was a good haul this week.

Got a very nice NDC Super Speed in case for my father (birth year razor, or close as possible) and what I thought was a D1 SS from eBay (my birth year). Turned out to be an O1. The hunt continues...I'm expecting another NDC SS for a daily user and a Slim.

Why was the August thread closed? I wanted to respond to a question there. I guess I'll do so here:

I am no expert, and I'm really not sure about Razor 1, but I believe Razor 2 is referred to as a Ball-end, Open-toothed Old Type.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong!

Well, I started collecting today, and plan to start with a Straight razor soon. I found all these (except the straight razor) in a baggie for seven bucks, not too bad. Im sure they will clean up nice. Now, i have looked on the internet and havent been able to find any info on the straight razor. Its a Taylor Brothers "Panther", with the box (see pics). If anyone knows anything about it, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

My sample set from GFT arrived yesterday. No VAT as I am outside the EU which almost offsets the P&P (at least, that's what I tell myself to justify it).

2 skin foods: Sandlewood and Limes - a bit of a pity as I already have a bottle of Limes sf
6 shaving creams: Sandlewood, Almond, Rose, Violet, Coconut Oil and GFT
7 colognes: Sandlewood, Bay Rum, Wellington, Astor, "Cologne" (seems a rather unimaginative name!), Curzon and GFT.

I am all in Sandlewood this morning having completed my ablutions and the missus has voted it a winner. I reckon I can get 2 or 3 shaves out of each cream and maybe a couple of days from each cologne so a couple of weeks' worth of experiments.

I just won a Gillette Fatboy on e-bay. It won't be here for about a week though.

    Default Found in Vietnam

    Gents,

Currently in Ho Chi Minh City and doing the rounds of the touristy stuff. Today I visited the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City. Out the back there's a little stall selling "memorabilia" and what's that I spy ?????

After a bit of haggling, it's in my hands. It's not in bad shape , all bars even, opens and closes quite smoothly and the numbers are all black ( though it could just be crud ).

It's about to go out in a repatriation PIF !!

Big 8/8+ straight blade. Its marked Halls electro temper on the shank.

Lamy 2000. I love the way it looks and it writes exceptionally smooth.

    So far this month;
    1. Sailor Jentle Apricot
    2. Private Reserve Purple Haze
Today we went to our local Farmer's Market, great produce selection and several non produce vendors too.
We found a local soap maker , she shaving soap. She had two varieties one with peppermint and one without. I choose the peppermint. She makes all her soaps with Goat's milk.
The puck I got was three dollars, it smells great. I will try out tomorrow.

Hard to tell from the photo, but that looks like a Single Ring next to it.
