For todays shave it was C.V. Heljestrand no.6 6/8 on the menu. Also switched back from my usual taylor of old bond street shaving cream and old spice after shave to the good ol' tabac shaving soap and after shave, you just can't go wrong with tabac.

Finally got around to honing and using this big boy.

My "Travel Set". I am at my parents' house for the Thanksgiving (US) holiday. Case Brothers w/wood handle. Cheap $4 Marvy brush, paddle strop, Arko Cream. Bump Patrol/Witch Hazel for aftershave.

For me today, I don't know if it was the water at my parents' house, or a blade that needs to go back to the stones, but something just didn't click. The glide was not as smooth as I have been used to. I think it is the water, the blade passes the HHT, and the last time I used this razor all was fine.

I'd agree with your suspicion about the water. I can tell when my water softener has run out of salt by a substandard shave with a razor I'm sure is sharp.
