It's one of the nicer looking razor's I have, bought it recently so I've only shaved with it a couple of times but it's sweeet. These razors slowly get more and more pricey lately...still have yet to break the $100 mark on one but it's coming!
Ha...just saw my title...pretty good timing on that.

Hot shower prep
Razor: A Russian, Столица страны, Capital of the Country
Soap: Russian "Everest"
Mug: European
Brush: Horsehair
Aftershock: Alum
Splash: Witch Hazel
After a few shaves, I finally have the angle on this snickersnee from Eastern Europe. It is sensitive to blade angle but shaves a dream!
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

Gee, it's good to know that Boris & Natasha are looking as young as ever!
How'd you come up with all the Russian gear in Wisconsin?

~~~Thanks Paco...more specifically, I paid $4.45 for it. IIRC it started out with one bid for $3.99 and I placed a higher bid and won. Obviously no one else bid as the bid only moved up 50 cents. I also got the nice Gold Bug (posted pics here a week ago or so) from the same seller with this one. They're both very nice vintage German blades and neither was marked (on the shank) as being built in Solingen...just noting that each was made in Germany (stamped in the shank). here's a couple of pics of it before I cleaned it up
I have as much fun cleaning them up as I do shaving with them. thank God for ebay and their sellers that enable blade whores like me=:-)
For the record, all I used to clean the blade was black emory on an 8" wheel then I went to extra fine green compound. I also buffed the schales with the green wheel, then I take it to the sink where I run a strip of 3M with a shot of liquid dish soap on it through the middle of the schales. That's enough for me to get it to the hones then shave with./ I still admire those that sand these vintage pieces and make them look like new but I think I'm allergic to sandpaper=:-)
here's another shot of the Gold Bug after I cleaned it up-
here's what it looked like before I cleaned it
I cleaned this one the same way...black emory comound on an 8" wheel then on another 8" wheel w/extra fine green compound. Admittedly, some clean up nicer than others. You never know what you'll end up with when it comes to bidding (on ebay) or cleaning at home as far as that goes but it's a fun little AD. IMO, some of the best razors I have and shave with are obscure unknown brands but the Gold Bug has been well documented as a good razor. That said, when I placed a bid on it, I had no idea of it's history. I did my research afterwards
~~~much grass mi amigo!...the shtuff around the pivot pin on the show side...tang and shank...it looks like rust but it was old crusty soap. the emory does a nice job of cutting through the tarnish & so long as you have good metal underneath, it will come out nice. That particular razor was stored well and undoubtedly started life with good metal. it's also a very nice shaver, 11/16, full hollow...my fave blade
