Default There's SO MUCH Zen in shaving!

I was shaving this afternoon, preparing for this John Williams concert (which was amazing btw), coming from dealing with some issues that weren't my fault, yet affected me. Yes, unfair!

Anyways... at first, during and after shower, I was feeling both upset, and rushed. But when shaving time came in, I decided I still had good time for the concert, so the priority was to get a nice shave instead of a rushed one.

But you know what? My system didn't buy it. After a while, I noticed what a bad shave I was getting... and it was then, that I noticed I still wasn't really calm! And I only noticed when shaving. Those blades really transmit our energies, huh?

Well, that's my story today... anyone else have some "shaving time showed my something" story?

So shaving is like a relaxing zen time for you, and it really calms you down right?

They do! I often go for a one pass SAS with my SE, knowing that if I can find time to focus on that, I'll get the shave desired, calmly. Last week, during one of those shaves, I nicked myself twice, outside of my shaving area. Dang! I was just not paying attention to where the blade really was when I got close to my nose and lower neck. Lesson learned!

Shaving is like shooting a handgun well... you must concentrate, yet relax, and be one with the tool. When it's right it's almost magical.

Yeah, there's some zen in there.

I find that shaving is not Zen for me. I find it more of an exercise in mental acquity akin to billiards, bocce or darts.
It is just soap, hot water and a sharp blade. It isn't rocket science or a Zen ritual.

There's nothing like coming home after a hot day at work and jumping into the shower with a cold bud light, a Boar brush full of Arko lather and a sharp SE blade in the Clog Pruf Micromatic. Then finishing it off with a favorite aftershave. Zen!

Beer in the shower? That's a new one on me! Knowing me, I'd end up filling it full of Suave suds.

I prefer a shower with a female bud, but i guess the beer would do in a pinch.

Like so many other tools (knives, handguns, writing instruments, golf clubs, etc.), I've found that tension transmitted through grip is a huge detriment to quality. A solid but relaxed grip is key to success. It's easier for me to shave in the morning before I deal with the day's obstacles. I'm more relaxed in the morning than evening. YMMV.

    Cheers
