  1. Default Help with Simpsons brushes.

Does Simpsons have different grades of best hair. I ask because I was looking at West Coast Shaving and noticed that the 57 was about $35 more than the Colonel X2L, yet both have best hair and have fairly similar dimensions. What accounts for the difference in price between these two (and others in the Simpson line)?

One grade of Best hair. The 57 (sweet brush) is a lot more dense than the Colonel.

I see. Is there a list which identifies which brushes are denser or should I just go by price?

The greater the knot density the higher the price and generally worth it as well.

You can go by price as well as the expert opinions on here as an estimate of how dense the knot is. Besides density, the 57's knot is wider in diameter than the Colonel's, about 23mm to 21mm IIRC.

The price differences for comparably sized brushes are a pretty good rule of thumb, but there are some outliers, such as the Harvard line. There is lots of experience with different Simpsons, so please post your questions, and we'll help you out.
