I read an article in a recent Bicycling magazine about how much better it was than using a cartridge razor. There was one phrase that stuck with me and it said that if Gillette made a Mach 10 it couldn't shave you closer than a DE. I took the bait and got all the gear and did a few shaves on my face and was hooked. I couldn't wait until my next shave. Crazy!!!
So I've got a race on Saturday and went for a leg shave (cyclists get scorned if we show up with hairy legs) with my Merkur 180 with a Merkur blade. The 180 just ate up all my stubble which was pretty long (almost 1/4"). Soap and hair just drips out the back, so you hardly have to rinse it. You can take long strokes instead of little short ones followed by major banging of the cartridge razor to get the hair out.
I'm still new to it so I was pretty careful and slow around the backs of my knees and ankles. You may want to keep your cartridge razor handy for that stuff. Anyway, it's the smoothest my legs have ever been. I'm sure I'll race better now.I'm bummed I'm just finding out about wet shaving but glad I found out about it.
If any of you cyclists or triathletes haven't taken the plunge on the legs with a wet shave I highly recommend it.
