Default Holiday snaps on the Kennet & Avon Canal

For those of you that are interested I have here just a few pictures of our Holiday on the Kenet & Avon Canal. It's a very beautiful part of England. The pictures show the part that enters Bath. Again, a very beautiful City.

I've had many a good holiday narrowboating. Haven't done the K&A yet though. It's on my list. Certainly looks good in your photos.

My next trip is at the start of october. An old friend has just moved onto a broad beam on the Gloucester and Sharpness canal and she's off for a month visiting family in October and I'm looking after the boat. Yippeee. I have it for three weks then have to take it to the boatyard just outside Gloucester where it's going in for a week for a full service before she comes back.

Just a bit of a shame it's a broad beam as i'm limited to the G&S, Severn and Avon. Never been up the Avon so that's where I'm heading.

On my last trip, we picked a boat up at Stratford and ended up in the middle of Birmingham, something I've always wanted to do.

As you say, ditch crawling has to be the most relaxing holiday you can have. Plan your day with the waterways maps choosing you lunchtime pub and evening pub!

Very nice. I live close to the Trinity River. It in no way compares to where you are. I can't imagine one of those nice boats taking a cruise on it.

    Hi
Thanks for your kind comments, I am no photographer. The pictures were taken on my point and squirt Olympus digital. In its day it was a good little camera but is a little out of date compared with the sort of camera's people have on this forum.

We had a great holiday considering it was the week of the floods. We were ok where we were but it rained a hell of a lot. I suppose it is testament to the type of holiday it was, that the rain didn’t seem to bother us. We had our waterproofs and we just kept going at 4 miles an hour along the water road.

The boat was comfortable and we had everything you could need including a full size cooker, heating, shower and the all important fridge for the beer. I can’t stress enough what fun the canals can be. We are very lucky here to have been given such a wonderful legacy.

One last thing, I would like to thank Tesco’s for paying for trip. We saved our points up for a year and checked them in for 4 times their value in vouchers. Brilliant.

That seems like a great vacation idea. Do you have some more info on narrowboating vacations in England?

    British Waterways Waterscape

Here's a good start. It's part of the British Waterways site. You'll find loads of info and links to some hireboat companies. There are many more sites, both info and boatyards, just google "narrowboat".

The best holidays I've had have been on the canals and rivers. Prefer the canals myself, even though the last time I took a boat for a week, I think I walked half the way from Stratford to Bimingham, working locks while my partner steered the boat between them! Did enjoy stopping at the Cadbury's chocolate factory...

This is the company we went with, http://www.alvechurch.com/ they cover the K&A its a good canal to start on, not too many locks to contend with except one large flight going towards Devizes. You can get canal magazines which have the companies in the back and you can also get maps with the canal network on it. I hope that helps
