    Default Shave Secret Shaving Oil?

Hey all - Has anyone tried Shave Secret Shaving Oil? I was thinking of picking up a bottle after reading some positive reviews of the product online.

I have never tried a shave oil before so not really sure what to expect. I would appreciate your thoughts.

I sometimes use it as a pre-shave oil and it works great for that. The only way I would use it, by itself, to shave with is if I used a cartridge razor. I don't think it protects well enough to use a DE or SE razor with it.

I have used it and it works really well. Apply per instructions, put razor to face, shave and be amazed when the hair just disappears. At least that is my experience with it.
Dont use it with a modern cart razor like the Fusion though because it will clog the heck out of the razor. Its cheap so give it a try. Also its handy to have around if you need to shave carefully around a nick you may have gave yourself. I nicked myself bad last week and had a good bump to show for it. Since it goes on clear you can see where you are shaving really well. I lathered up normally and left the nicked area for last. Put a couple of drops on my finger and rubbed it in and shaved that area with no issues. You can also apply it and lather up normally over top of it for added slickness.

Agreed. I'm not brave enough to use it alone, but as a pre-shave oil it works well; and the price can't be beat. $3 at Wally World.

I can't handle the smell, it's like putting Rem-oil on your face. Not saying I'll never try it again but I was told to try to put a few drops in my mug & mix it in with my soap. Awful idea. That might work for some, not for me.

I used to use Shave Secret and refilled my bottle with white mineral oil. Worked just as well and no odor. Later I discovered that I could shave better without lather at all. Just rubbed in oil and followed with a brushless shave cream. Finally I got curious and tried some Vaseline that I had on hand instead of the oil. Here I found that I had to use only the smallest dab to put a thin film of grease on the beard and then rubbed in the brushless cream to mix with the Vaseline. Never had gotten that much protection from lather. And the brushless rinses off my razor and face with hot water. I bet no one here will try it, because I have posted about it when I first discovered it and everyone was too skeptical to try.

It works fine as a pre-shave. I don't care for the smell, however.

If you would like to try an outstanding pre-shave oil, try the RazoRock "Pre-Shave Gel".

How easily does the Vaseline rinse off your face?

I usually use a warm wet washcloth to get every last bit of Vaseline off. But the water rinse takes off the brushless and a wipe with a towel and I am also ready to go. I just have trouble rinsing the lower part of my neck that way. A bit of Vaseline seems just like putting on an oderless shaving balm. I rotate my aftershave expreinces. Sometimes use witchhazel; sometimes an after shave; sometimes just cologne; and sometimes a combination of witchhazel with one of the others. Rarely use a balm like Prorazo.

after Kyle's prep.. I use this as a pre-shave oil before lathering up for my 1st pass. Works great for that.. only need like 5-7 drops.
    Enjoy every moment.

Well I picked up a bottle and tried it out and I really liked it. I got a very close and smooth shave with no razor burn. I did not mind the smell of it. I had never used a shave oil before but I am glad I did. Thanks for your feedback.

It works well prior to lathering but not by itself as the product claims.

I use it on occasion. I used more often when I straight razor shaved.

It works great for me as a pre-shave, it's cheap and that tiny bottle seems to last forever. The smell is neither an attribute nor a deal breaker, and it fades very quickly.

I use it in rotation. Works well on the first pass. It has a strong clove smell which I don't find unpleasent, but I know others have stated it bothers them. For me, Noxzema Original is much more effective as a pre-shave.

It's not bad, but crazy expensive per unit compared to using a natural oil.
After mixing a bottle of pre-shave, SWMBO says "nice snake oil." Really, lady?
