has anybody had this done, and what is the best finish to have? or is this down to personal taste.

    Many thanks Alex,

Here is an example of a Rhodium and Nickel replate on a Slim (rhodium is left and bottom):

Rhodium will proberly last a lifetime but more expensive. Really hard to scratch rhodium as well. I have som older Zippo Lady Bradford's with no scratches plated with rhodium.
Nickel, well, some are allergic to this metal but not that expensive for you and rhodium, I think so, tend to be a little darker then nickel.

    I would go for nickel.

Even though I have never consiously seen rhodium with my own eyes, on pictures I prefer the warm look of nickel and I love the way my slim looks. It still has the original plating (I guess) and after 50 years it looks like it can take another 50.
Joris (not the razor). If you consider it as a hobby, you shave for free.

Onotoman - it's hard to tell from the pics but after plating do you not touch up the paint in the numbers? Sorry to be picky but I like the look of the paint.

He does repaint the numbers. I received my FatBoy from him two weeks ago, and now I'm eagerly awaiting the return of my Slim and 40's SS. I went with nickel, and Dave's work is really top notch.

Haha, you saved me the typing in answering that one.

Your Slim and SS are all done and I'm just waiting for the paint on the Slim to harden, then they'll be on the way back ;-)
