Thanks all for the great comments on my other thread about my first shave.
Happy to report I had a very successful shave this morning, and it was considerably smoother now that I know where my problem areas are. I incorporated some of the feedback, and this morning:
-yes I am face lathering, with the puck of soap in a ceramic bowl. When I was done I washed out the bowl and the puck and put the puck back in to dry uncovered. Hope that will be ok.
-Underneath my jaw (sort of the upside-down horizonal part, before it becomes the vertical neck) is a tough area, and was even with a Fusion. Today I did two passes WTG and one pass ATG, and then sort of touched up this area. Despite this, it still felt a little scratchy even when wet and lathered. Is this normal? Now (a few hours later), the hairs seem to have receded a bit and it feels baby-smooth. Is the the behavior of whiskers in general - to recede a bit after they're sliced?
I will start planning on a blade sample pack and a better brush, really my objective with the VDH set was something inexpensive with which to test the waters. I hesitate to spend a large sum of money on something I'm not sure will be a permanent fixture.
All in all great experience!
ETA: I will try to take a picture of my setup and upload it, too.
