Thread: Son of Dorko!

    Default Son of Dorko!

I recently secured what was described to me as being a vintage '30s Dorko no. 856 in 15/16+. This thing is (almost) exactly like the newer no. 856s ('50's-'60s?) that have been floating around for the last ~year. My newer (50s) one is one of my best shavers - at least for the qualities that I like in a razor. I did a preliminary light cleaning of the vintage Dorko and honed her up to one of the sharpest, most stable, and most comfortable edges I've seen in a razor yet. It is like WOWIE!!!

    Viva la old steel!

BTW - this razor was actually stolen upon delivery to me and recovered a month later in the unopened box!

    ~60s Dorko:

Yes - I live in this (crappy) apartment now for the last few months. Got forced into it because of a moving deadline for a new job. There is a locked door for the building which houses ~6-8 other apts. One tenant saw the box delivered by the USPS directly to my door in the building, but it was gone when I got in from work that day. I asked around and then a few weeks later, I put up a note in the building explaining this and requesting information. Box (and several letters of different postmark [??]) showed up at my door the next day. Weird.

BTW - I just noticed that the vintage one has only a single stabilizer like my most of my other older Dorkos.

I am glad the razor found its way back to you. It is beautiful. I have bid several times for NOS Dorkos without success. One of these days.......sigh........!

Enjoy your Dorko and Happy Shaving!

Glad to see the razor found its home, I have one of the newer ones, appears to be twin brother of yours, love the shave off of it also, How do you feel the new older model compares? heavier? Kinda curious as the one i have is my only dorko that i purchased so that i could finally scratch that itch, but there still seems to be a residual itching going on.

The new ones are great, too. That's what got into this whole Dorko thing. The grind on the new one is very similar to that of the old one. Old one is perhaps very slightly stffer grind than the new one, but at 15/16, it'still got a lot of flex. Either very good. I am just really impressed by the quality of the steel.

    Cheers.
