Default Rotations Are Silly....Or Are They?

Whenever I heard the words "its in my rotation" I would always giggle. However, I now see the point! DE shaving is fun even if you use the same products over and over. It is MORE fun when you add that variety factor. I think it takes about a week for me. I start to get kind of bored and forget how enjoyable a task it is to shave. Then I switch my razor or brush up and BAM! Fun again! Not that it wasn't any fun before, but id does get old using the same stuff over and over again. Variety truly is the spice of shaving life!

I agree! I spent 5-6 weeks changing razors daily during the Oldest-To-Newest Challenge. Between that and the preceding GEMini challenge, I had also vastly expanded my rotation of soaps and creams. It seemed a little "challenging" at the time, but I miss it now. Most recently, I started testing out a Personna 74 blade (legendary for its longevity) on my maiden voyage into Injector shaving, and was using it four days a week while adding my new Slant DE razor on the weekends for a shot of variety. Though the Injector shaves were great, it was getting just a little ho-hum, so I've set it aside after 8 shaves to try out a new GEM G-bar this week. Next week, I'll start pushing the P74 again, but swapping in other razors on weekends. Gotta keep it interesting!

Agreed. One thing I find enjoyable is perusing my shelf of razors & selecting the one I feel like using that day - much like one would peruse a shelf of books trying to decide which one to read that day.

Having different choices definitely adds to my enjoyment of this hobby. And my shave den pales in comparison to many members here.

Hell, I take it even further. On occasion... not every shave mind you, but just once and a while, I do something I call "Bladeblending" where I pair up a different razor to a different section of my face. It goes something like this....Rolls Razor on my cheeks and sideburns, switch to Black Tip Superspeed with a Feather blade on my neck, switch to a Gem for my neckline, switch to a disposable Bic Metal for the spot just under my nose and to touch up anything I missed.

    Yes, I'm nuts.

The Black Tip is a little oddball in the 40s-style, which came in aluminum-handled and steel-handled versions. I have the former version, and found it very, very mild like a Blue Tip. Not for me.

Well it sounded cool at least. I am with you. Mild razors don't do anything against my speaker wire beard!

Well, you don't buy a jar of peanut butter, jar of jelly and a loaf of bread and eat nothing else but PB&J's until it's all gone, do you?

If not, then you understand the concept of a rotation.

I rotation a lot of things and I could swear my hair grows in a bit different as different blades and edges vary

My mind works the other way and I crave simplicity and reliability. I have one DE, my first. I had five but sold them. I have one brush. I have one cream. I have one cartridge razor and one gel to use with it. I know what I get. A large stock confused me though I appreciate the fun element it may bring.
