Which is your favourite shaving brush and why is it your favourite?

Gentlemen (and Ladies, of course),

we are continually asked for recommendations for brushes by newbies, experienced shavers wishing to upgrade, people looking to try a larger (or smaller) brush and also by people wishing to try a boar (or badger) for the first time. I realise that it is difficult to always provide the information without allowing emotions into the argument, so this time I am simply going to ask you to tell us about your favourite brush. Please let us know the brand, model, type of hair and the reasons why you love this brush.
Of course, photos are a big help


This is a very difficult question for me to answer, but at this very moment my favourite brush is the Simpson's Eagle G3 in Best. I love the handle shape and size, love the density of the knot and I think that the best part of the whole deal is the fact that it was a B+B Group Buy.

For me it is the
Rooney Finest 1/2



Whenever I use this brush the quality of the hair always amaze me.
At a glance the loft of the knot appears a bit to high, but once brush
is put to face the finest hair truly shines. The tips are soft yet offer plenty
of backbone. Even with the hardest of pucks I never have any issues
building slick voluminous lather with the Finest 1/2.

The past 6 months I've developed a fondness for small, short-lofted brushes with little give. My favorite these days is my Rudy Vey 16mm finest with a 40 loft. It's pictured here next to my favorite Simpsons. I like that it's a small knot with little bloom and a beefier handle than the WS.

My favs keep changing, but the Simpson PJ2 in Super, RV LE in Finest and Simpson Duke3 Super are usually in the top 3. Lather monsters, comfortable feel on face, feel good in my hand.

To that I can add Chubby1&2 (Best and Super respectively) for pretty much the same reasons.

A simpson emperor 2 in two band is doing it for me these days. Simple go to no fuss love it.

I have a Simpson Chubby 2 in 3 band Super, a Simpson Duke 3 in best, and a Savile Row 3824 silvertip in my rotation right now and if forced to chose 1 it would be the Savile Row 3824 because it's a great brush for both soaps and creams and bowl lathering or face lathering. I honestly believe it is all the brush that anyone ever needs. Dense and luxurious with enough backbone, it has not shed a hair since I got it new from QED. Just a great brush.

Muhle Medium Silvertip Fibers. It's my favorite because it's the only one I own or ever used, since I just started DE shaving.

Savile Row 3824 Not a lather hog and it's very soft on my face but not floppy... I haven't found a better brush yet and I have tried several Rooney and Simpson brushes....

Rooney Heritage Stubby 3XL and Chubby 3 in Super badger. Both great in all aspects with the only drawback(besides price)being they use an immense amount of cream or soap.

My Omega boars. Either this smaller one (80257) or my Pro 49 have emerged as my absolute favorites. In a word, I love them because they are easy.

Having tested a variety of brushes, badger, boar & synthetic, I can't escape the fact that these two boars, now beautifully broken in, are my ultimate lather monsters. They hold water, feel GREAT on my face, handle easily, don't hog lather, and, basically, are foolproof. I always happen to get my best shaves with these brushes. I could sell all the others and be perfectly happy.

They are wonderful with soft soaps like Valobra, Proraso, or RazoRock (), but work great with any soap or cream I use, on my face or in a mug. I'm never disappointed. They make lathering up just plain e-a-s-y.

I guess that makes me one of the boar guys.

Depends on the day. Somedays I want a large brush (Urn Finest). Other days, a really large brush (CH3). some days a ridiculously large brush (Finest 3/3) and then there are those days when only a Polo 14 will do.

My favorite brush is my Grosvenor LE two-band! A lovely brush with excellent face-feel; does a marvelous job with both soaps and creams. Excellent flow-through. Great handle.

+1 Sameer. I'm spoiled too in re: to big,luxurious brushes. But only moderately spoiled,not Royally,like you and Ken. But give me time !

I made it out of some scrap walnut. The hook is made from of a piece of Corian.

My current favorite is a Truefitt & Hill silvertip style 1 large.The tips are why I it.Lather is all you feel.

My Omega 10066 Boar.
Perfect size, perfect backbone, perfect price.
Never encountered a soap or cream that I couldn't easily lather.
A totally non-froufrou, utilitarian workhorse, which feels great and performs flawlessly.
