    Default Mindlessly wandering NYC

When I finished installing my new phone at work (a 44x OC192 dense wave division multiplexer), I had some extra time to do one of my favorite things- wander the mean streets of New York.

First stop, Korin Trading, to check out some new sharpening stones.

Ooops. A bit too rich for my blood. $2K?

Might as well look at some knives while I'm here.

Always wanted a wa-gyuto (a western style blade with a traditional Japanese handle). Note the lonely tag, once associated with a Suisin 24cm.

Of course, one must always consider the future, so I picked out a nice b'day present for next year.

Shopping sure can work up an appetite. Better get something to drink.

When you're in the city, you can get pizza every day, so it's not a big deal.

    Excellent photos!

I went to NYC about 4 years ago but unfortuantely only got a couple of hours to wander round.

I have to admit, I've never really had all that much of a desire to visit NYC. However, I read a article on Yahoo awhile back about how the city has lost a a lot of the "grit" that made it great. The neat mom and pop speciality stores are being replaced with Starbuck's and Best Buys, and The Blue Ribbon and The Mesa Grill will soon be torn down and replaced with Steak n' Shake and a McDonald's. I hope this isn't the case, but I can't see it NOT happening at some point.

    Nice pics Jay.

    Fantastic pics!

The Ten Ren shops are great - fortunately we have one in Toronto.

While Toronto isn't NY, I agree that its great to live in a city and be able to find all that you heart desires if you know where to look - unfortunately, we don't have the equivalent of a Pasteurs - at least I can get JM Fraser and Booster just around the corner!

Toronto is one of my favorite cities. Last year, we were walking up a street, and my wife said that we should take it to the end. Turns out it was Yonge Street, the longest street in the world.

Depending on whether you were heading south or north, you would either hit the lake or end up at the Ontario - Minnesota border!

I really, really wanted one of those natural stones, but even the cheapest one pictured, at $480, costs more than all of my current stones combined, and I have a few nice ones.

NYC still has areas with flavor. Around May - June SOHO, Lower East Side, and The Village start to bloom. Street artist start to come out to sell pictures. The stores have to fruit and vegetables out. There is a restaurant at about 85th and 2nd called Tonys. Its great to sit outside, in the early evening and have dinner.
