Has anyone ever used a case tumbler, like they use for cleaning brass cases for reloading, to clean razor blades? I kind of like the idea of being able to turn it on and not worry about flying razor blades and buffing wheels.

Quite a few people do. I looked at one a little while ago when I started to clean up blades but in my situation, a buffer was a better option.

Would that round over all the sharp corners of the blade? Or is it gentle enough to avoid it?

It doesn't remove brass when cleaning cases. Since brass is softer than steel, I assume it wouldn't be bad for that either. I plan to use hand sanding to remove any rust and then polish it with the tumbler. You use either crushed walnut shells or uncooked rice.
vibratory tumblers are an excellent way to help clean blades. There was an extensive discussion about them a while back on one of the other straight razor forums.
do a search for tumblers and straight razors and i'm sure you'll find it.

+1 to John C's post above.
They won't do miracles. and are really slow, but low effort and if you start with a half way decent looking blade it will shine it up pretty good.
Gssixgun over at srp did a nice tutorial on the subject. I cant find it or i would post a link
I like the tumbler for light cleaning & polishing. Buffer for more serious stuff.

This is the last page and GSSixGun has a review of the method... Just picked up a tumbler today to give this a try!
If the surf is up south side, you know where you can find me when I'm done shaving.

I use it all the time on blades with etching, it cleans them up nice. I have never really gotten a mirror finish form them though.
