i've seen a shaving video of an african-american gentleman who used this on his neck to avoid ingrown hairs (note the "razor bumps" promise on the tube). i hate to imagine the sort of chemicals required.

Isn't that Magic Shave? I think its mostly marketed to ethnic groups that have short tight curly hairs. When I was in the Marines they would give this to the dark green Marines that got razor bumps from using the cheap disposables they issued

Its rough stuff, eats at the hair(keratin), skin too. Plus it smells awful.

I tried it when I was younger not knowing what it was. It gave me a minor chemical burn. Not bad just enough I would never pick it up again. That stuff is not for anyone with fair skin.
