Any Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers?

At a certain point after my nest is empty, I want to hike the AT from end to end. I have recently been reading a bunch of first person accounts of thru hikers and was curious whether any were here at B&B. How about Pacific Coast Trail or Continental Divide Trail Hikers?

Not a thru-hiker here, but I have section-hiked from the PA/MD border down 60 miles south about a year ago. Had a great time with 3 of my friends, and would love to go back out again. Perhaps when I retire a thru may be in the offing.

I hope to hike the AT some day. So far, I have done only section hikes, and have friends who have done the entire thing.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to respond nonetheless.

I'm not a thru-hiker, but I have completed all of GA, TN, NC and also nearly everything between the Presidentials and Baxter/Katahdin (save a 30 mile stretch I skipped after having to take my dog to a vet).

I also plan to complete the thing once I retire, which I hope will be in the next few years.

I have an 80 year old client who thru-hiked in his early 20s. I'd love to do it some day, but I'd have to take a leave of absence from work for a spring/summer. I have done only small portions of the trail, but I see nothing but smiles out in the woods! To get my fix for a long weekend, I have to drive ten hours to get into the north GA woods near Springer Mountain. One of these days...

Pulled out my copy of "A Walk in the Woods" for some laughs when I saw this thread resurrected.

Back in the late 60's my first wife and I walked the Muir trail from Yosemite to Devils post pile. We had planned to go to the full route to Whitney but an early season blizzard cut our trip short. We ended up slogging the last day in knee deep show until we got out. Looking back on it, we were lucky. There were others who were trapped in the high Sierras and had to be rescued that year.

When in my 20's I did some sections of The Trail (north, south, Smokies) & swore I'd do the whole thing someday .. now I have the time, but probably physically can't go end to end. So back to sections, which, someday, will stitch together the whole trail

Helping a friend/coworker prep for the trail this season, too bad I can't join. Should be interesting to hear from him.

I haven't walked the entire AT yet but it is on my to do list. I walked from the trail from Virginia to Georgia on summer during college, man that was fun.
