You reckon his lathering skills are a little rusty and he got it to runny? ... or maybe he prefers the convenience of instant foam over having to take time to build a lather. People are accustomed to instant gratification nowadays!

Maybe he tried to eat the lather.
Besides, Gillette's goo isn't half as good as Nivea's is.

How old is your dad?, did he ever use a brush with a cream or soap?. Sister gave my brother-in-law a tub of the Taylors Sandlewood. He had never used a brush cream before just soaps, so he asked me how I build shaving lather with them. Your dad may just not know the proper technique for building a proper shaving lather.

Some long held habits are hard to break. In my view, one try is not enough to make an evaluation especially if it has been a long time since he used a brush. Some think that the brush soap/cream method is old fashioned and won't give it a try. That was the basic premise behind the original Burma Shave Brushless shave cream marketing campaign. We all know how that worked out for them.

I gave my dad shaving sticks with a brush and a superspeed with blades. And i showed him (via skype video call) how to lather up, soak the brush, shaving with the grain, mapping the beard etc. He loves it now!

My dad too thinks it is old fashioned and thinks he will cut himself. He also thinks his shave is "good enough" (he accepted it ).

Not everyone wants to change. Ask him if he's open to the "new" way to shave. He may not be interested.

Hell, he's old right !? Us old farts can be as cantankerous as we please!!

You did better than I did, when I told my Dad that I was shaving with a DE and how great it is he responded "your generation thinks it invented everything, men were shaving like that since before I was born" but, when I asked him why he wasn't still shaving with one he just mumbled something under his breath and walked away.

That was the first time I think he was speechless well,.........except for the mumbling.
