Default Suggestions for a travel scuttle

I have 3 scuttles: a Moss, a Dirty Bird, and a Georgetown Pottery. All work great for keeping the lather hot at home on my sink counter. They are to bulky and heavy to carry in a small travel kit.

Does anyone make a travel scuttle? I would assume it would be made of some type plastic molded in a similar manner as the Moss or Georgetown Pottery models.

I have played around with an insulated cup to keep the water hot and some type of plastic insert to keep the water hot.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

I haven't tried it, but my gut reaction is to go with a nesting mug or bowl combo that is made out of something durable. Go to the store, check out the bowls, find something cheap that nests just right and you should be good to go. If you travel frequently, then I'd look into increasing the investment, but if it is occasional, hit up your local stores...

Personally I'm looking into an un-breakable mug that I'll just float in the sink. I hate doing that because I never get the balance right, but with the amount I travel, that is the effort I feel like spending.

I tried a small metal bowl - but decided to go with a shave stick and face lathering instead.

Travel anything needs to be light. Metal or plastic. The problem then becomes floating. Any time you put the lather bowl in hot water, it will float. Shooting from the hip, I would go to second hand stores, and find two metal bowls that were the right travel size, one fitting inside the other leaving room for water in the outer bowl. Then, I would "weld" the bowls together with JB Weld. That would give you a reservoir for water, but because the bowls are "welded" together, the inner bowl won't float.

Who knows whether the above is a good idea...

Also, might glue non-metal bowl together the same way.

I will "Pony" up here and admit I have always, whilst travelling that is, used the one supplied in most hotel rooms.

Plastic doesn't really hold the heat - Maybe pack a small travel mug or face lather.

Whether you use plastic or metal, heat loss will be a problem. Either continually run hot water into the outer bowl. Or, wrap the outer bowl in a towel.

It has a bowl, a reservoir, and even a tap on top! What more could you ask for?

I do have one, and it works perfectly as a scuttle, though I mainly use it for defrosting food (fill with warm water and slap frozen item on the flat side.)

It's a bit large for travel, but weighs nothing. If you use it to carry drinking water, then it (almost) becomes a sensible option.
A shame they only come in 2 and 4L sizes, nothing smaller.

A small double walled stainless steel mixing bowl...drill a hole in the space between the walls to fill with water...won't get beat up in a dopp kit.

    That's my only solution.

I forgo the scuttle when I travel. It makes it that much more enjoyable when I return home.

I just suggested these in another thread. Silicone bowls from REI. One is squishable, the other is collapsible:

I'm sure they're available elsewhere as well.
