Featured Aftershave - Aqua Velva

I did not know the sport is only available in Canada. It was my go to for years. I keep some Blue around, but not my fave.

I'm having trouble finding Ice Sport here in California at the usual places. Is this being phased out? None at Walgreen's, CVS, Rite Aid and there isn't even a spot on the shelf anymore.:confused1

Yeah, Original Sport smells great

I don't use it as an A/S though, only as a cooling body and forehead splash

I know, what a waste :)

By the way, where did you get that huge bottle ?

The only place I can find it in my area in Ohio is at my local grocery store (Giant Eagle)... Drug stores around here don't carry it anymore either....

Ice Sport is one of my favorites...

I use it about twice a week. It's like hopping in a time machine and going back to the 1960s for me. That was the only A/S Dad ever wore.

The European market bottle is the shape I remember.

Wish the Original Sport was available in the States ... like to try some without a major shipping charge.

I had some DG knock-off stuff that was absolutely not the same. I found some glass bottles a few months ago in a local grocery store and finally tried actual Aqua Velva for the first time. Needless to say, I loved it. I see why it's been around so long. :001_wub:

My dad-in-law has a big 7oz bottle in glass that he's working on and I'm about to worry him to death reminding him not to throw it away. I definitely think it deserves preservation.

I am in middle age, and I actually did not smell Aqua Velva when I was young, at least that I remember. My father did not wear aftershave very much. In fact, we bought him a bottle of Old Spice for Christmas one time in the '60's and I think that bottle was in his bathroom when he passed away (which we were dumb enough to throw the bottle away at the time). I don't remember AV on any of the male teachers I had growing up either, but I'm sure some of them must have worn it. Anyway.

I've really enjoyed this thread and reading over the basenote scent notes that were posted by the OP. I went over to Target this morning a put a tiny bit of the Ice Blue on my hands. It's got a few notes in common with AV Musk, but it fades faster than the Musk.

I'll probably be picking up a bottle of the Classic Ice Blue pretty soon.

The Ice Blue is a classic.

A great shave, followed by a healthy dose of AV and some Tabac cologne is my choice when I'm in the mood to annoy the wife. She calls it the "porn star combo".

I had said before that I didn't really care for the scent of AV, but I had only smelled it from the bottle at the store. I recently was pif'd some and have been wearing it for a few days now. It definitely wears better! I have to remember never to judge an AS by the bottle smell. I rather like this stuff. The menthol is great! But, I feel the scent can be a little overwhelming. As if I could be smelled across the street. It's a powerhouse, so I started adding it to my wet palm and applying to my dry face. Seems to tone it down just right. It won't replace Skin Bracer for me, but it will get used.

AV classic ice blue is great stuff, sure would like to find one of those Euro glass bottles here in the states.

Love AV Classic Ice Blue, It's my daily AS. Both my Dad and one of my Grandfather's used it as well. It was the first AS I bought when I started DE a shaving a couple of years ago. In my area, it is available at Wal-Mart. I believe the 7 oz is still around $5. I kept my first glass bottle and now decant refills into it. I enjoy the heft of the glass bottle as opposed to the plastic. Seems like a nod to a better time. Of course, I find the forms of shaving discussed on this forum a nod to a better time and better grooming as well.

Long live AV

Just picked up my first bottle last week, my girlfriend really likes it, for me the scent is very faint. Definitely nice and cooling after some proraso :)
