    Default First new straight :)

Just got home to find my first new straight and a SRD strop waiting for me! (Happy Birthday to me!). Got a Dovo Forestal from Straight Razor Designs and one of their 3" Latigo strops! I am in my happy place! Thanks to Don at SRD for his help! I'll post some pics later!

No Dovo razors but I do have two of their 3" strops, you'll love it I'm sure. Congrats on your first new razor and strop.

    Happy Bday!!

I am really happy with this one and the service from Straight Razor Designs was top notch! Can't wait to shave with it and compare it with the older ones I have been using... hope it lives up to the hype!

Shaved with it this morning and I have to say...it was fantastic! I am very happy I got it. Straight Razor Design had top notch service too so all in all a great experience. It is definitely beautiful to look at, I am almost scared to use it :) I am sending a couple more I picked up at an antique store out for honing so that will bring me up to 4 in the rotation... early onset SRAD????

I am considering the same model, but can't quite convince myself yet. Would you say it shaves better than a DE razor? That's what I currently use. Thanks for the opinion.

Bittenfatten, I am loving it so far. As for better than a DE-that depends. I am just now getting DE quality shaves after several weeks of the straight. In some ways I think it is easier than a DE because you have a more direct connection to blade angle. The learning curve on straights has proven to be much longer than a DE...but I enjoy it more. It still takes me longer to shave with the straight, and after several days of good shaves, I gave myself some nice razor burn yesterday with an ATG pass. I think a straight will give a better shave...eventually. With learning strops, angle, the right lather, hand position, pulling the skin, etc, etc... It can take a while. Straights are less forgiving, but more rewarding IMO. To be honest, if I just wanted a great shave I would use a DE. If you are looking for "something" more in your shaves I would say try straights. A decent vintage on the BST or a sight unseen set from whippeddog.com ($48 gets you a shave ready straight, a strop, and a balsa wood paddle with powders) would be a cheaper way to try it out. The dove is really nice though and SRD were great to deal with, and if you don't like it I would be happy to take the dove off your hands for the right price
Sorry for rambling...tired. Good luck though and keep us posted!
