Pens and Razors - they go hand-in-hand

Well, a Nibs Forum eh - on a Shaving Site?

Not as strange as Mr or Mrs (out there) would think. I love fine writing instruments and fine shaving instruments and it seems that a lot of you guys do to. I also love a good timepiece too.

Vintage pens I have are:

Parker Lucky Curve Duofolds, Junior and Senior - Pearl and Black, Jade Green, Big Red, Black etc.

Conway Stewart - 58 etc
Onoto Modern and Vintage - I sold my Onoto Magna a little while ago for £800, it bought me a lot of vintage razors and I just wasn't using it.

As for the Duofold Lucky Curves, I find the Juniors are great practical writers but the Seniors are hopeless - they blot, ink pours into the cap when stored etc - I've tried fitting modern feeds, adjusting etc to mo avail.

The main reason I use a Fountain Pen is because I'm left-handed and a teacher once said 'Left Handed eh? You'll never write with a Fountain Pen' - now there was a challenge!

I now have around 50 vintage and modern Fountain Pens.

Can we see these lovlies?

The only thing as nice as Razor pics is Pen Pics!!

Here's some 'pen Porn' ;-)

MB149 from 1980s with ultra-rare Broad Oblique Nib (needed for my left-handed over-writing) - it took me years to find it.

Jade Green Parker Duofold Lucky Curve Senior 1926
Pearl & Black Parker Duofold Lucky Curve Senior 1928 (These ones discolour - in this case to a nice Butterscotch)
Parker Duofold Lucky Curve 'Big Red' 1926
Parker Duofold Lucky Curve Pearl & Black Junior 1928
Parker Duofold Lucky Curve Lapis Blue Junior 1928

Beautiful assortment! I like the Duofold Jr too, great shirt pocket pen.

Hi Doug,

Yes, the Juniors are much better everyday pens - the Seniors are good lookers but are impractical, they blot and leak ink into the cap when carried - nothing worse than being in a meeting, pulling out an impressive pen, removing the cap and covering your pad and fingers with ink

Awesome! One thing I love about pens is that they look better in real life.
When you see great pictures like these and others we've seen in this forum, you know that if you saw it in real life it would be that much more spectacular.
I agree that pens, watches, razors and all the things we find here go together.
There's just something about them. I don't know what it is exactly, but there is definitely something there.

Maybe not a great writer, but I reckon I'd wack someone in the head to get my hands on one like that Jade Green Duofold.

Preferably not me :)

Probably the most valuable pen I have is this modern Onoto Centenary - It's a Prototype - Number 4 of 10 Prototypes ever made and in solid silver - the guys kindly sold me one as I was part of the original company. It's a full 90 grams in weight!

Yes, the Onoto is a lovely pen and the guys have tried to stay faithful to the originals other than changing the filler mechanism from the original plunger filler to a modern cartridge or converter filler. You can see some more of their great models at www.onoto.com

The Magna Writer is probably the one I'd go for next with broad oblique nib and some nice brown ink :wink2:
