Default Gave my Atra a go for old times' sake....ick

Approaching a year of DE shaving, I found myself wondering just how my old shave compared. So whipped out the Atra, lathered up with KMF and did my best. Tried to use my improved skills, but could not really feel what I was doing....so gave up and just drove it around my face like I used to. Stopped when I began to feel irritation just like I used to. Result: almost DFS but with a bunch weepers and a profound wish to not use such a device again. Now I remember why I used to use a black "shave towel"...to stop the bleeding that I don't get anymore.

An interesting experiment, and one that increases my fondness for DEs and B&B.
I think you’ll find it’s a bit more complicated than that...

I know what you mean. I used my Sensor after 10 months of DE and had an awful shave. End of Sensor.

Well interesting....I have great results with my Atra, using the same prep, and products as I do with anything else. I do a WTG pass(N-S), and a XTG pass (nose to ear), and call it good.

I am inclined to think the poor results were from the "so I gave up and just drove it around my face like I used to" rather than any fault of the razor itself. You were expecting to get a bad shave, and due to the technique you ended up using insured that you did.

I used my Atra this morning and had a CCS. Proper technique really helps me with a Cart or DE/SE shave. I have also found that soap seems to work better for me when using carts, less clogging.

I often still use a Fusion, Schick Hydro 3 or my M3 when I travel, (Cartridge razors make TSA happy and I don't mind losing them) and I find that if I give them the same attention as my DEs and Injectors, I can get a DFS from them. (With the exception of the Fusion, I think the hinge is too weak)

Believe it or not this thread actually makes me want to go back to M3 and sensor just to see how they would compare to the stuff I use these days.

No harm in trying, go for it. Remember to use the same prep you would with a DE/SE.

I can get really great shaves out of cartridge razors now. It did take more than one shave to work up to that though.

Interesting...I love carts. They're quick and easy and I get BBS with ease. The issue is their cost.

No, I was actually expecting a really good shave! Before DE, I usually got a crappy shave, but I figured my improved skills would make it shave like a dream. I used the same prep and the lather was the usual. The "driving around" was not fast or anything, it was just that I gave up trying to feel for the right angle like I do...and the half of my face I did before I stopped trying felt the same as the other...and just like the old days. Maybe the Atra is just not for me. If I get a free Sensor or Fusion I might give them a whirl.
