    Default Paypal vs Amazon Payments

Has anyone used Amazon Payments? Supposedly Amazon Payments doesn't charge fees as paypal does.

I'm a prime amazon user, but never heard of amazon payments or saw any sites accepting it.

I wouldn't mind switching over to Amazon payments, but I'm waiting on more places to start accepting it as a method of payment.

Never heard of it, and I can't find any mention of it on Amazon's payment options page.

Can you post a link so we know what you're talking about?

i think you are looking at no buyer protections, although i could be wrong.

This from the Amazon Payments FAQ: https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/about?nodeId=5970

Am I protected when I use Amazon Payments?
If there are ever unauthorized Amazon Payments charges against your credit card or bank account, you can dispute the charge with us. Depending on how quickly you notify us about any unauthorized transactions, you might not be held responsible for those charges. If you submit payment for a product or service and you do not receive the item, or it is materially different than advertised by the merchant, you can dispute the transaction and request reimbursement. Learn more about transaction disputes.
    Doesn't that include buyer/payment protection?

I am not going on a PayPal rant here but it is high time there was a legitimate competitor to the service. Even after it was bought by eBay you would find numerous complaint sites about PP. Mostly from vendors who had accounts locked down with little or no information or why it happened. No real need for customer service. They had the field lock up. I only recently opened a PP account and even then it is tethered to a pre-paid credit card. So healthy competition is good for this market.

As an aside, my credit union recently announced an upgrade to their epayment system that will allow payments directly to people. I do not know how it works since the upgrade does not roll out till Monday but I will keep you posted with any pertinent information.

    Regards, Todd

I have a mechturk account and make a few bucks here and there that goes straight into an amazon payment account. I haven't used paypal so I can't compare them but I haven't had any problems w/ amazon yet.

I think the buyer protection may apply when using a Amazon payments valid merchant not personal. Kind of like PayPal gifting.

Amazon is ok but I have been researching getting a real merchant account because I can't deal with people holding on to my money. Has anyone ever heard of www.merchantinc.com ? Any experiences?

    There is: your credit card

PayPal only exists because the vast majority of their users believe that PayPal is somehow safer than using your credit card.

Have a look at google payments as well, seems a bit more widespread than Amazon's.

I did not even know about this. I always new that small businesses and such could use and Amazon checkout (similar to Google Checkout), but this is new to me. I think we have to come to grips with the fact that it is only a matter of time before Google and Amazon rule the world.

The only part that bothers me about the libability of buyer protection is this......
Depending on how quickly you notify us about any unauthorized transactions, you might not be held responsible for those charges.

Hmmm......depending? All of my credit cards have zero liability for unauthorized transactions. And I had to put that to the test once when I had a mystery $650 charge on one of my credit cards.

Matt I completely agree about using cc's most times. Where I finally hit the proverbial wall was eBay. There is almost no other way to pay there. And here at B&B it is the only way to quickly pay someone for persronal purshases. My credit union announced the capability to send individuals money but I have not looked into the service. Given the choice I would trust a merchant account or my credit union a million times more than PayPal.

    Cheers, Todd

Todd, that is unfortunately a side effect of eBay owning PayPal. They will not give that up.
