Default At what point does this hobby become an obsession?

I was watching a DVD of Downfall last night, a German film with English subtitles set in Hitler's bunker in May 1945.

In the film a German female was reading out a letter to a male relative (Frau Goebbels to a son perhaps?). She was listing the things she was sending him. My attention was distracted from the screen when I heard the word "Tabac". My first thought was, "Would that shaving product been available then?"

A quick glance at the screen established that the lady was sending ...

I think it's nice that a lot of people are into collecting these kind of razor and brushes. People collect all sorts of things.

Having a collection, of any kind, is a symbol of wealth and stability. It means that you have enough money to pay for all the essentials and a little left over to spend on a luxury for yourself or your family.

In my mind any luxury hobby becomes a problem when you start to buy things you can not really afford. So the big warning flag to me would be when you start buying things on credit instead of paying for them outright.

Isn't there an old say along the lines a man's greatest fear is when he dies his wife will sell his possessions for what he said he paid for them?
But seriously, I have a will, of course but I also have a list of who gets what (guns, knives, cufflinks, and yes, razors) and what gets sold and a take no less than this amount. I'll still be driving my wife crazy long after they sing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken".
BTW I'm only 44; it's never to early to start planning for thing to proceed in an orderly manner. Who knows if reaching for that pop fly will be your last move on this Earth.

When you stop enjoying your shave den and start obsessing/stressing over it.

When you are constantly checking store fronts to see where the antique stores and flee markets are. When you have more the the one brush, one razor, one blade type, one cream, one soap, one scuttle, one shave gear cabinet, one display case, one travel kit, etc.

My wife is going away for a couple of days, and my son and I are planning a trip to the flea market.
At least it's not a trip to the casinos (Atlantic City).
But my philosophy has always been "bang for buck", bearing in mind "the law of diminishing returns".
My greatest triumph would be my Yuma razor for $2.49. Does a $24.99 razor give 10 times the pleasure?
It's a question you have to answer yourself.

When you've had so much stuff "secretly" shipped to the office that even your coworkers look at you funny.
Also, when you profile the online vendors' names to determine which packages go to the house and which ones go to the office.
    I'm way past denial.....
