    Default Watch styling poll

    Hi everyone,

I'm curious to know which you would prefer... I myself am conflicted and I'm looking for opinions.

    Sleek & classy:

Well unless you:re 18 or have very large wrists I;d stay away from the lower two- they look like something a young man would get as a birthday present to look cool with. The top one isn:t bad but you can do much better and don:t have to spend a lot either. I:d try finding a Mondaine dealer instead.
First website i looked at just now is www.swissmade.com. This shou8kld give you styling ideas, though I am not at all suggesting it has to be Swiss to be a well made product. I do think though, that the Swiss aesthetic definitely has the edge over a lot of Japanese offerings. If you can get the European style from a Japanese company, that:s the most cost-effective option.

Even that one doesn't have everything. It's not complete unless it has a tide calendar for every major beach in the world:

I like no nonsense, minimal and easy to read. Simple divers and military styles mostly. The first watch is too dainty and hard to read, and the second way to busy and even harder to read.

Something like this is my 1st choice, although maybe more robust.

You can't fault the pics above. CWC, or MWC is what the Americans call a no-brainer. Also google Fleiger for some wonderful pieces. And don't let anyone tell you it has to be mechanical.

I like chronometers with skeletonized faces. I also like classic looking numerals, h/m/s hands, and leather straps.

Hard poll. Many times a given watch isn't right for certain occasions. See these guys with suits wearing a cheap Casio digital? Personally I like Pilot and diver style watches.

Long time lurker first time poster...

I like Oris. Well made Swiss jobs but not as expensive as others out there. It might be their baseline model of diving watches but for me this one:

goes everywhere - metal bracelet and black bezel for my money. Clean design, works with a suit or casual. The blue option isn't bad either.

I am afraid none of the above, I prefer classic looking watches.

I am now the (alleged) owner of a Citizen Calibre 8700... Or so say my parents. It's my birthday in two weeks and I may have one incoming.... Fingers crossed!

And in answer to my own poll, this would be in the third option... Somewhere in the middle between minimalist and super-busy:

I'm in agreement that watches suit a particular style and function.
If I had to pick only one to do everything it would be one like an IWC Portugese or Portofino.
Maybe a Rolex Submariner or a Tag Heuer Grand Carrera for a more sporty look.

Maybe you want both, or something similar to both styles within reason. Though I usually prefer minimal watches, of the ones you posted I do like the Eco-drive the best, especially if it had simpler bezel. Personally I would not purchase that first Citizen, as it reminds me too much of a Skagen watch which I think (but not sure) came out with this styling before Citizen did:

Er, aren't some posters getting a bit enthusiastic with these suggestions? We were meant to be giving styling advice, not showing how rich we are. I wonder how many people would be so unsure about which of 3 CITIZENs they might buy that they ask about it on a forum and then think,
"Oh, I just remembered I've got $5,000 so I'll just buy a Rolex instead". PP even more so. This is why I suggested Mondaine, which is around the same price point. "In the style of" goes a long way in these situations. So, in that spirit, ICEDOVERFIRE, check out Orient if you want a classy diver which is also automatic and affordable. !!

I like a sportier, but yet elegant/clean look. So my choice is for a diver type watch, or other steel on steel with a clear face and at most the date in a window somewhere on the dial.

For example, the Orient Mako fits my bill.
