Video Guides

We are going to begin making some videos for you guys to show some things that are difficult to explain posting here

The videos will appear in this thread and is open to suggestions to anything you guys would like to see us do

Just drop a Comment here and we will get to it as soon as we can, For smaller requests we'll do a video request at the end of the week, and for larger ones a whole video to make sure we properly answer your questions

Hope you enjoy these, as well as make great use of them

The B&B Nib Team

The first video in our series is a bit brief, but I walk you through the parts of a standard converter filling pen, using my MonteVerde Invincia Deluxe. Hope you enjoy

Discussion of these vide
os and ideas can be found Here

so its a simple thing, By having a narrow channel inside a wider bottle it takes less ink to create the depth needed to fill a fountain pen, its a simple thing, Vintage Skrip bottles have a little pocket in the glass that does the same thing, and Akkerman ink bottles use a little ball and an upper tube that serves the same purpose.

when the inner tube is empty, Atmospheric pressure when the bottle is turned upside down will equilize the pressure and fill the inner tube, since the same volume of ink is in both, the level in the smaller space inner tube will be higher then that of the wider main bottle. Sailor Jentle is the bottle in the video, I believe TWSBI bottles also utilize this as well

Here you can see three Nibs,
The one to the far left has the coating completely removed, the middle one has the coating only remvoed from the tip, and the far right has all of its coating still intact

View attachment 337276

Not all nibs come coated. Modern Speedball nibs are an example of this, they only need an initial cleaning in case of any debris left from packaging, and they can write right away, although if you not sure if a nib is coated for certain, the burning process will not hurt the nib, and feel free to do it to make sure your nib will work properly

In Part 2, Which I will record and upload in a little while, Ill walk you through loading ink on the Nib to writing with nib and nib holder, as it can differ quite a bit from a fountain pen

Here is a quick video showing an alternate filling method that may help you out in some situations

specially on pens with seals filling systems, like a Vac, or other sac style pens

The Air gap I left in the syringe, was to leave a little space at the top of the syringe to make it easier to remove the plunger without making a mess

If you don't have a large enough syringe to do this (I bought mine from the gouletpens.com) then you can decant into a smaller tube such a an ink sample tube

That's pretty darn clever. I guess Sailor doesn't really cater to filling pens with nibs larger than what they make!
