Default Brush change -- lather issue with soap

I recently switched from a Century brush to one of those super fluffy silver tip badger brushes. While the brush feels nice, I'm now having to work much harder to get a decent lather. With my Mama Bear, I need to squeeze the brush dry almost completely and use twice as much soap. My VH simply would not lather at all. Same for both face or bowl lathering

    Insight and comments please.

Two things to keep in mind: 1) allow some time for the brush to break in; and 2) remember that every brush retains a different amount of water.

Leave your brush wetter when loading. Makes more bubbly stuff at first, but don't add any more water until you work all of that for a minute. Honestly, firmer brushes load easier on soaps, but I can load a floppy old face mop with MWF if I leave it a little wetter when I start.

I had the same problem with the switch from a pure badger to a CH1 in best. It was much harder to load the brush and get lather. I believe the softer hair has a harder time picking up the soap. My solution was to add some very hot water to the top of the soap and let it sit for at least 5 min. Not a problem if you set up before your shower. That and experimenting with the amount of water I squeeze out before I load the brush will help.

I have always used the process described in the wiki but the longer, hotter water on the soap and some trial and error solved the switch difficulties.

Soft brushes require more loading, as they do not pick up as much product.

This. Think of it as creating a soap emulsion with water and dissolving more as you swirl, rather than scraping soap off the puck with a denser brush. It works like a charm.
